During the past nine years or so I've turned into a bit of a geek (computers). Does the fact I've never seen any of the Star Wars movies mean I have incorrectly associated myself with a group I do not have the qualifications to belong??? To be honest, I don't much like any of the SciFi stuff (although I saw and liked the Star Trek movie with Ricardo Montalban).

you're a newbie geek.
past 9 years, eh?
well....you may have started to develop like a geek over the past 9 years, but you are still not a mature geek as some of us are.
I have a suggestion, go to blockbuster (or netflix, if you're a G|A brand geek), and get the trilogy. Take a night and go through all of them (cause real geeks don't sleep an night). And if you don't like the trilogy, keep on watching and drinking your caffine until you do!

You don't have to be a geek or a SciFi fan to enjoy that movie. My wife even liked that one. It was just a great story, the fact that it was set in space was secondary. Well, you still had to see past William Shatner's bad acting.

Depends on what you actually do with computers. If you tinker a bit, you're probably sorta normal not having seen Star Wars. Now, if you're a Linux kernel hacker, it's a general rule that you must be able to speak Klingon.

:heh: Yep everyone knows that George Lucas plants Linux source code subliminally in his movies!
I think it's too easy just to watch the Star Wars movies. You have to watch all the Star Trek movies as well. Also to be an official geek, watch the movie Trekkies, and assume the indentities of one of those geeks.

I started by taking them apart and moved on to building them myself -- 16 to date. Linux does run on two of my boxes (its own partition -- multiple boot options) but I haven't hacked the kernel. I guess I'm more of a hardware geek.

there are classes of geekhood. You are a geek, just not a mouth breathing, acne suffering, can't get laid Star Wars frea...geek. Nothing wrong with that.

if you haven't seen star wars you are less of a geek.
but bonus points if you act like you have and can get away with it.

Or a geek wannabee, if you would - i still have a lot to learn as far as technical stuff is concerned. In other words, i know little about being a total geek (compared to a real geek). im not even a nerd (now THAT requires a certificate, a degree, and a doctorate).
ive been called a dork, but thats just a loving term by my former GF years ago.
i guess im a misfit.:hmm:

I guess you'll never be an Ubergeek without being into Star Trek/Wars. I've noticed that there's a Geek - Monty Python connection. Does anyone else have any geek connections that they're aware of?

So, can geeks play sports or be athletic in any way?
I might not qualify for geekhood... :(

But does that exclude you from true geekhood?
Hmm, does that mean that you shouldn't be allowed to call yourself cpugeek04? :hmm:
