what ports do you need to enable to send files through AIM?

good question... I'd like to know the answer to that one as well. An explanation would be good as well.

AIM allows you to set the port. It's in the corner of the preferences screen for sending files. Choose your port and then open that one. If you want to connect to people or have people connect to you it's 4443.

theres been a few threads on this one, i had the problem before. like memo said, select the port you want to open, put that # in AIM, and also on your hardware firewall. You still wont be able to send to certain people (at least thats what I experience). I'm not sure if there are certain ports that you shouldn't set it to.. ports like 21 and 80 are used for other things at times.. like if u run a web page off your computer, or 21 is the default for ftp.

where in the router/firewall do you set up that port?

filters? forwarding? etc.

I think its port mapping, or port forwarding. One of those.

i believe so. just as long as you put the same port # on your AIM as you put on your router.
