i decided to start this because my sister and i make different kinds of rice.
we use the same brand and everything but everytime she makes it, it's like all wet and mushed together.
she says she likes it that way
but i like my rice a lil drier, like where u can each a grain at a time if u wanted to.
so how do u like ur rice? drier and being able to eat one grain at a time or do u like it wet and mushed together?
well i just looked at my poll and saw all those slashes and i duno where they came from, one of the mods wanna help me there?

I don't like my rice to remind me of porridge. I like my rice a little dry, but still have some stickiness to it. I know you can make Asian (long grain?) rice really mushy. I don't know if it's possible with the American brands. I thought they were always really really dry.

I think that it is easier to make short grain mushy.
Oh, and a funny little story:
One of my friends instists on eating a certain brand of rice because it is "Asian rice". I looked on the package after they bought it, and I found out that it was grown about 40 miles from my home. I didn't have the heart to tell her though... :heh:

Ya, I was going to say that I don't like rice at all and that those people should just buy better cars if they want it to look "special".

I like my rice dry but semi-sticky -- none of this Uncle Ben's individual grain stuff.

I like rice but I'm too retarded in the kitchen to cook it right. I was thinking about getting a rice cooker to reduce user error. Do any of you use rice cookers? Or do you prefer to use a regular pot?

I use a rice cooker, but no matter what I do, the rice always stick to the bottom of the pot! Only a few times has it come out clean! I have yet to figure out what was done differently those few times... :hmm:

I've only used a rice cooker. Makes things easy. Wash the rice, dump it in, add water to a certain point, and wait 20 minutes, thats it. Simple. Don't even have to watch it. I've found that putting a *thumb nail* length of water over the rice is adequate for dry yet sticky rice.

After it cooks, use the rice scooper, and scoop up the bottom, and mix it. After cooking, try removing the remaining as soon as possible. I've never come out with an absolutely clean rice pot, theres always a few bits and pieces. Or it can just be your rice cooker!

Not too sticky, or else it'll just stick all 'round your mouth. And it tastes similar to chinese porridge (jook). If its too dry, you can still use chopsticks, just gotta have SKILLS :hihi: I like some sticky rice like that sweet sticky rice thats in "noh mai gai" or "joong" (rice wrapped in lotus leaves with chicken or other ingredients), or "noh mai fan" (stick sweet rice w/mushrooms, chinese sausages, etc.)

Actually, if you're using a pot, cook the rice on full fire until all the water is gone and you can't see anymore bubbles. Then, put the cap on the pot and lower the fire to 1/4 of full and let it stay there for 7 minutes. Then, take the cap off mix the rice well with a spoon, put back on the cap and turn off the fire. Let is sit there for 6 minutes and then take the rice out. That way, it won't stick to the bottom of the pot.
If you want your rice stickier or drier, just put the cap on the first time earlier or later (for sticky rice, put the cap on when there are still bubbles). :)

Oh... as for how I like it... to be honest, I'm just so glad to be getting some that I don't particularly care whether it's really wet or not, as long as it's warm. I guess I like eating it when it is a little moist, but not too wet. If it gets too wet, it becomes a little gross. ;)

Ya, my favorite rice is the cooked kind.
Moist, 1/2 white 1/2 brown, as a bed under teriyaki chicken or my now-perfected lemon garlic chicken. :)
Now to invite angeleyes over for a little... dinner. ;)
