Anybody have suggestions on what pcmia card I should buy for my sony vaio card on an smc wireless router? Looking for something cheap but that will work well. thanks

Your best bet is to match the card with the WAP, so I would recommend SMC. They're fairly inexpensive anyway...

All of my wireless is linksys (Router, PC and PCI cards) and I've been very happy. Your mileage may vary.

Are there any issues of compatability while using different brands of wireless network cars, routers, etc? :confused:

So, say, if I were to get an apartment with a friend who already has a wireless network set up, would I have buy the same brands?

Nope, it's all based on the 802.11 wireless standard, so different equipment will work just fine as long as it's 802.11b. Equipment from the same manufacturer tends to be a little more stable & sometimes faster, tho.

the range on that 3 com card is listed as 300 feet outdoors, but most other cards list 1000 or 1500 feet? am I missing something here, or is that card just not as good as others based upon the range alone?
