my clock seems to be losing about 5 seconds every minute while the computer is on. i know this wasnt happening last week. i just formatted my drive 2 days ago and just reinstalled windows 98 se and havent installed xp yet. i know it was working just before i formatted. i dont think that the mobo battery has any effect on the time when its on, but i havent tried to replace it yet. i dont know if turning the computer off has any effect because i havent turned it off since i reinstalled windows except to restart it.

That's what holds your settings when your computer is turned off. yeah, ill pick up a new battery next time i go out, but the thing is that its happening when the computer is on. i can watch the clock in another windows session in a terminal services client window on another computer and mine is losing 5 seconds every minute. and when i sync the other comp with the national time server it reports that the time is correct and on mine its slow even though i just adjusted it a few minutes before. this especially messes things up since i use my computer as a dolby digital 5.1 alarm clock :D.

Could it be possible that a piece of software on your machine is causing the clock to drift? Maybe this piece of software, without your knowledge is somehow affecting the RTC?
Are there any unknown processes running in the background? Have you tried booting to DOS and checking if the clock still drifts?

it turns out that it was a software conflict with the ati tv software. as soon as i closed the application it went back to normal time. this isnt a super bad thing since i wont be using 98 for much except gaming, but anyone have any ideas on what to do fix it? i dont like having one of my most used programs creating such a big conflict on my system. im going to reinstall it and see if ati has a fix to the problem, but if anyone else can think of something, that would be great. thanks

eh, i like my ati radeon aiw. its actually run very well since i got it. i think i bought it when it was brand new. this is only the second real problem that i had with it. the first was that the tv wouldnt work after i did a restore install of a 2k installation. other than that, its a decent gamer card with great tv and vivo and good tivo performance. i cant wait for the radeon 8500 aiw 128mb. or maybe ill just wait for the next gen cards and see who has the best of both worlds since i use the tv more than the 3d

Perhaps the version included on the driver CD? This is certainly not an ideal solution but it is a workaround until ATI offers a version that works for you. Good luck! :)

My GF's comp has the same problem. I thought it was the battery too, but she also has an ATI Radeon... :hmm:
Oh, and shut up, DF... you don't have to be right all the time! ;) :P

Good luck! :) i had the same software in it last week with no probs. only after the reinstall is when it started to mess up. i dont really care too much, like i said im only using 98 for games and the few other wares which dont work in xp. i just installed xp and the same version tv app and it works fine

BTW... I know that individual opinions may vary, however it's kinda funny when you go out to the ATI website and they have a page dedicated to this "problem".
