What is the fastest videocard available with PASSIVE cooling only?

Hehe, just for background info: I am thinking of building a completely silent computer, so I want to find hardware with passive cooling. I think the videocard might be the hardest...

i have no idea about a quiet video card, but what are you going to be doing with your processor. what ever you do with that will probably be good enough for your gpu too. if you are going to water cool, try doin the same with the video card.

I'm actually thinking of passive cooling for the CPU as well.

I was thinking of going with *cough* *cough* a Cyrix.

Anyway, I don't want the thing to be a speed demon; I just want it to be capable and quiet.

I know that there are some 32 meg cards that require no fan...

Also, DVD decoding would be a must.

As far as the water cooling, I don't think that would be a viable solution... besides, don't the pumps make noise?

I also have 4 quiet Panaflo fans in my system (2 120mm for the radiator and 2 92mm for general intake/exhaust) and it is basically silent. The only real noise is the hard drive, and even that is minimal.

Watercooling is more pricey that going with a passive-cooling solution, but I think it is worth it for the performance advantage.

get an add in PCI decoder card, that way you can have a lower end Video card with no fan

I already have a 32 meg card w/ DVD decoder, but the 3D rendering isn't very good. I was thinking more along the lines of a GeForce 2, but I'm not sure if any of them come without a fan. I could always use the card I have... but it would probably be holding the CPU back...

I would think that some GF2 MX versions have no fan

Hmmm, I guess I could look into water cooling. I was just looking at the pictures on newegg.com, and it seems that GeForce MX 200/400 come with passive cooling...

But if I went water cooling, I could always go with a GeForce 4/Matrox 512 and a P4 1.6A@GodKnowsWhat... :hehehmm:

Too bad money doesn't grow on trees. :(

As for the HD, does Seagate still make the quietest HDs?

not much if any the gf2 mx's are pretty flaky

id say they are a joke of a graphics card, but mojo would call me racist.
