I'm not so much a Kings fan as that I hate the Lakers (I'm a clippers fan). As for the Celtics, my roommate is from Boston, so I'm rootin for the Celtics. The only problem is that I like Kidd and hate Walker, so I'm hoping that the Celtics beat the nets, but that Kidd plays well and Walker plays badly. :D

I'd really like to see the Nets win because my man Kenyon "K-Mart" Martin broke his leg in the NCAA tournament the year that UC should have won it all. It would be nice to finally see him win the big one.
Also, I am rooting for the Kings because I hate seeing a single team dominate for more than a few years. (I guess I am a hypocrite because I am a Red Wings fan, but what can ya do?) :)

The Lakers are the Yankees of the NBA. I hate the Yanks with a passion, so it's natural that I dislike the Lakers as well.
It's hard being a fan of Cleveland sports teams when there are teams like the Yankees, Bulls and Broncos around. Too many times those teams have foiled the chances of Cleveland winning a championship. :(

Sorry to say, Horry's 3 pointer was all clutch by a veteran who has multiple rings already.
I'm sick of seeing Sac's flopping by Vlade and Webber's whiney/crybaby/i can't win looking face. I give Bibby all the respect and props in the world, but only Bibby (and maybe Pollard; the only center who plays Shaq straight up on D). Other than those two, every SAC player can kiss the Lakers' two championship rings they already wear. HAHA! Lakers coming back baby!!!
I'd like to see Webber in Game 7 blow it in the final minutes like he did back in his Michigan days. That would be some funny ish!

As for the Kobe "foul" in game 6. Sorry there was no foul... if Kobe is trying to move and bibby is holding him and then gets hit in the face that's bibby's fault.
As for those who think the fix was in, hmm phantom foul that puts bibby on the line to make 2 to force overtime... oh yeah the fix is in, again I had to say, if the kings make free throws under pressure, they win. They didn't get screwed, they screwed themselves.

Sorry, they were not screwed out of game 7... if anything they screwed themselves. They were put on the line to make shots... they missed it, the refs didn't make them miss, they did that all by themselves. Noone else to blame but themselves...
Peja's airball threepointer, that wasn't a ref's fault.

Fact:
Kings screwed themselves for not making their freethrows.
Fact:
Peja should not have come back. Airballing that 3 point show was unforgiveable.
Fact:
Kobe gropes. That's not good defense.
Fact:
Shaq gets hammered day in day out. But he also dishes just as many.
Fact:
Vlade will be flopping all over his living room this summer hoping for call. Refs are losing respect for him. Moronic fool.
Fact:
Samaki's 3 should not have counted...Kings should be in the Finals...again...crappy officiating cost someone a series.
Opinion:
Changes should be done in officiating...there should be more clean cut rules on how fouls should be called. Shaq leaning into Polard's raised hands does not warrant a foul call. If Polard hacks him, then yes.
Lowering shoulders into someone should ALWAYS be a charging call.
Opinion:
Personally, I'm losing a lot of faith in the officiating for the NBA. Every game it seems like referees are controlling the outcome of the game more than the players.
Stern better get his @$$ together and start making changes instead or worrying about marketing. When the product starts to suck, then people are gonna start getting turned off by it.
A fervent sports fan will only see what he wants to. Indeed its almost a waste of time to convince otherwise.

Not quite true. This is an opinion added with a fact. It is a fact that Samaki's 3 should not have counted. The ref. made the wrong call on that one (although I doubt that it was intentional). However, to say that any one shot made at the end of half time would cost any team the game is an opinion. You can't just subtract those three points and assume that the game would've gone exactly like that. The shot should not have counted... fact. Because of that call, the lakers won... opinion. :)

More like the LACK of a call. ;)
Yes, its my opinion that Lakers should have lost that game because of the 3 points. However, it does make you think, doesn't it? Which why could have gone?
You can say the Lakers deserved to win, and you can say the Kings do. In the end, I can't help to think how pivotal that call was. Among other ones. I said it last year, and I'm saying it this year. Officiating blows in the NBA. I bet you that if we round up all refs in the league and give stones to the fans, 90%% of the fans would throw it at them.
yippiekiyeh
06-03-2002, 06:32 PM
It's not about deserving... no team deserves to win. In order to win, you have to win on your home court. And until the some team beats the Lakers, they are the 2 time defending champions.

You won't get any arguments from me about the low quality of the officiating. However, if you gave people stones and the ability to get away with it... over 90% of people would throw stones at the pope.

Errr....do you think 90% of Catholics would throw stones at the Pope? Most likely not. 90% of PEOPLE (of any religion) probably would.
In my statement I said FANS. I can see why non bball fans would throw rocks at the refs. But the fact that fans of the game would do it then it means the officiating has gone down dramatically. Officiating hasn't been as big of an issue in the past as it has been over the last 2 or so years. Its come under more scrutiny recently then before. Not saying it didn't happen it the past, just saying that is was less of an issue.
Now, my statement about 'stoning the refs' is more of an anology stating that 90% of the folks out there probably feel that that officiating sucks and the refs are doing a poor job.
Anyway, as stated before, the quality of the game has downgraded dramatically. As a fairly hardcore fan, I don't like seeing the quality of the game downgrade like this. Its disappointing and it turns me off from the game. I don't plan on watching the Finals because its going to be more of the same and its not worth the frustration.
I think the "respect" calls are BS. If they do not add instant replay next year or make adjustments to officiating, I will not watch NBA next season. Its pointless and a waste of my time.

If a ref makes bad calls, that makes him a bad ref. Which means I throw rocks at him.
I'm sure we agree that the refs makes pretty bad calls. That means they are bad refs. Therefore, fans will stone them. We go from 90% of FANS (my original statement) to, 90% of people, fans non-fans alike (your statement). Then we move on to 90% of the idiots (your statement). If FANS=IDIOT, then that makes you and IDIOT. And that means you're calling ME and IDIOT. Now if I went around calling people idiotic and then saying something like "you won't get any arguments from me about the low quality of officiating", which in essense means that you're agreeing with someone. That means that you agree with someone you call an idiot. Which makes you??? That's right, a bigger idiot. What did we learn today? Not to misinterpret other people's statements and take it WAY out of context. ;)

I think wednesday's game will be either a slim net's win or a laker blow out...
And not a Net's Blowout or a Lakers slim win... but then again, that's why you gotta play the games.

Well, I dunno, I can see a Lakers "slim" win as a possibility.
But :stupid: on the no Nets blowout...completely agree with that.

No... I'll give you that... they don't show boat or talk smack as much as say Antoine Walker. However, it's not that that I have a problem with. What I don't like about them is that they're so cocky that they don't put effort into their games anymore until the end of the game. Skill wise, there is no team this year that could take them. Unfortunately, they almost lost to the Kings not because the Kings are so much better than them, but because they played like retards in the beginning of the series. That's the problem that I have with them.

Lakers play down to the level of their competition. Thats why they lost 5 games to last place teams this year.
Talent wise Lakers are in the top 5. There are lots of teams with more overall talent. Kings, Dallas, Portland come to mind.
The obvious separation comes from Shaq the most dominant player and Kobe the most talented player. The other starters and the bench don't get much props but they get it done.
The thing most people miss is the heart and determination of the Lakers. The core has been playing together for 5+ years making them one of the few teams not to restrutcture every 2-3 seasons. They have won all the big games and have come back from 20+ point deficits.
That builds a lot of confidence/cockiness and it seems a lot complacency(?).
The amount of wolfing I seen from the Kings alone this past series is more talking than from the Lakeshow all season. Kings bench were out their seat crowing and talking trash to our fans after made shots. In their house the fans were much more obnoxious than ours are and you never saw Shaq going out to fans. Imagine if they had won the series, they'd have been buzzing for months. Now only silence in Shaqtown.
Hate the Lakers if you want but they're not going anywhere.
3peat!

have come back from 20+ point deficits.
Yeah, but the problem that I have with them is that they get into 20 point deficits. Letting a game get away from you to that level is just stupid, I don't care if you can come back from it. That just shows a lack of respect to their opponents. :(

Yeah they go down by 20+ points in a game... gives me a heart attack when they wake up and win. How does it feel if you are on the losing side of that? If you are the team with the 20+ lead only to see that lead disappear and then you lose the game, man that sucks.
Then again, I've seen it happen with the Bulls also back in the day. The Lakers had a 20+ point lead on them at one time, only to have them come back and get beat. It goes to show the better team sometimes needs to get their head bonked on before they wake up and "really" play.

It has nothing to do with me. It has to do with all those that do not like the Lakers. All of you yelling and waving your banners around, say Lakers will lose this, and Lakers suck at that, I don't hear you any more. Give the Lakers their props.
As for other teams, I don't hate other teams in the NBA. But I can always find a person that will say "I Hate The Lakers." Oh well, I guess it's a matter of preference.

why would it matter so much to you that we give the lakers their props?
Does it really matter? And no, I would never give a team props when they cheat their way to the finals. NBA as a product has become very disappointing the last few years. They are so damn desperate to find the next Jordan and the Bulls to market that the whole essense of competitive basketball has gone down the drain.

Good for you. Nice to see you don't hate other teams. But hey, that's you. You aren't everyone else. There are plenty of people who hate other teams. Go ahead and start a thread asking people what NBA teams they hate and you'll see.

It's the same reason why you shake the hand of your competitor at the end of a match.
It's called sportsmanship.
You can talk all the trash, and hate all you want. But in the end, when you look up at the scoreboard, Lakers 4, Kings 3.
