Ok, well I love plextor and said I won’t buy anything else but, well I saw the 40x and re-read the review by Leon and decided to get the Lite-on. ONLY because he said it can rip copy protected audio, and you all know I need my CD’s as MP3’s for the DJ’n reasons.
So we shall see what happens when I get my new drive….

The 32x for $15 less looks more enticing to me... :hmm:

Oh, by the way, LPMiller reviewed the units not me. So if anything goes wrong, kill him and not me. :heh:

Bring it on!!
:bandit:
I JUST got the 48x in, before it even hit the stores. Doubt it's too much faster, but now I have to go buy the Eminem disc or something to see how it handles the new Key audio protection.

hehe, I was speaking just for myself. I don't plan to do any ripping of copy protected CDs, and for $15, the speed difference isn't worth it... what am I paying, about $1 a second? :disa: :D

actually, with the latest firmware, the 32x can read copyprotected audio, at least the ones that use cactus shield. Like the 40x, it shows as data tracks, but you can rip it with EAC, or just make an image and use daemon tools to rip with. Being able to at least load the disk is half the battle right there, which is all I really look for.

With everything said, should I get the 32X or the 40X Lite-on?

Well, it depends which is more important to you: a minimal speed increase and equivalent ripping ability--with use of firmware--or $15.

they've been getting hacked by commie chinese hackers.
Yeah, 32x is really the 'standard' now for burners, and 40x isn't all that much faster. If you just are going to rip music and burn CD's, the 32x is fine. Content makers and those that burn SVCD and the like will want the fastest they can get.
