OK, for the thermodynamics geeks in the audience -

My computer sits inside of a cabinet under my desk. I know, it's more asthetic than functional, but what can you do.

So everything was good until I put my new GeForce3 into the box, & that added a lot more heat. I'm OK as long as I leave the cabinet door open when the computer is on, but if someone closes the door it's only a matter of a few minutes before the box heats up too much & locks up.

There is a vent in the back side of the cabinet that's about 3" wide by 18" tall, so I decided to put a fan there to circulate the air inside the cabinet. I have an AC fan to install, but here's my question - where do I put it, and which direction should the airflow be?

I was thinking that it should go at the top of the vent and suck air out of the cabinet, and then cool air would flow in through the bottom of the vent - does that make sense? Would I be better off with 2 fans, one blowing in and the other blowing out? Opinions?

Airflow should always be from bottom to top and front to rear! You need to put a fan on the side blowing straight onto the CPU and may be another fan on top to suck out the air! The problem is that the air inside the cabinet is hot so it won't help much! :D

Two fans should work(80 mil etc). Your cabinet isn't a big deal as long as there's a fan in the front to bring cool air in and a fan on the top or back can push hot air out.

Of course that would be ideal, but with the door closed there is only the one vent on the side near the back. It's inside of a large desk, so there's no access to the top or back. My only option for two fans would be one at the top of the vent and one at the bottom.

Thanks for the input, tho!
