View Full Version : A good, inexpensive P4 board to OC a 1.6A... you thoughts...

I'd like to know in what board you use your 1.6A? And what the easiest overclock technique would be? I've been out of the game since the Celeron .18's were all the rage.

So a good DDR board is what I'm looking for. To overclock to the 2.4 numbers that I've read... is it all just FSB? Or are there soldering tweaks required?

I'll be building four identical boxes... and I'd like to see what I can squeeze out of at least one of them... and retain the as-advertised stock stability.

If I get zero overclock... that'll be fine. But while I have the chance, I'd like to flex the muscles a bit.

I use an OEM version of Asus's P4B266-C. This uses Intels 845D chipset. The difference between this and Intels 845E chipset is the 845E has officially support for 533Mhz FSB.

The easiest overclock technique is going into the bios and changing the fsb from 100 to 133.

Another alternative is a motherboard that uses SiS645DX. This chipset has official support for PC2700 DDR.

By the way... where'd you get an OEM version of Asus's P4B266-C?

And can I get one (actually four)?

I wouldn't rule out an RDRAM board unless you already own good PC2700 memory.

The Abit TH7II board is really good. About 120 with raid

Hmmm, I see from your sig that you used RDram in an overclocked rig. So, what are your experiences with it? Pluses, minuses?

It's Fast when overclocked and overclocking a P4 Northwood is like stealing candy from a baby.

Negatives ??? hmmm I can't think of any since it's come down in price I paid $70 bucks a stick for 256mb sticks which is about what I paid for my Samsung PC2700.
