View Full Version : Gf4 Ti4200 64mb or 128mb?

I was wondering what y'all thought about the 64mb and 128mb versions of the Gf4. Is the 128mb really worth it? I'm not sure what card to get as of yet or even what brand, any recommendations?

I think the consensus has been 128megs. Just in case you didn't know, the Ram on the 64meg version is clocked faster, and will outrun the 128 in some cases. But since we always overclock, stock speeds are ignorable.

The GF4 Ti4200 128 meg version is slower (http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardware/ti4200/page2.asp) due to the slower memory {222MHz DDR} it uses as compared to the 64 meg GF4 Ti 4200 {250MHz DDR}. 128 megs is good when doing fsaa at high resolutions and is eventually going to become the standard in videocards since games are going to become more demanding and memory hungry. One final thing to know is most GF4 Ti4200 128MB cards will overclock to 64MB speeds, you can never add additional memory to a 64MB card.

Get the Gainward 4400 128mb one. lpmiller reviewed one a lil while back, and i decided to pick one up from newegg for $250. It easily overclocks to the 4600 speeds and beyond (mine does at least, lp's didnt quite get there). It has a DVI connector and a DVI->Analog converter so you can use two convential analog monitors in the twin view environment. Pretty much an all around kick tail card...

I'm shopping for the Ti4200 at $150.

The card Irish is talking about is now down to $200 at newegg.com I'm sure it can be found for a bit less at other places. $150 is a good price. I just want to know if the extra $50 is worth it. I guess i'll have to see how much money I have :)

You're lookin at teh 4200 - 128mb. The 4400 is still 249. Granted, its a bit steep, but it is well worth the price. The 4600, imo, is NOT worth the extra $100. The 4400 easily reaches the 4600 speeds.

GeForce4 Ti 4400 is the videocard I would get. As Irish said most overclock to 4600 speeds.

LPMiller overclocks? :P

OCing is weak, but in teh 4400's case its almost begging you to do it. Otherwise, screw OCing.
