I'm running a 1.4 Athlon on an Epox 8KHA board and have been having sporadic mouse failures. I decided to switch over to the Intellimouse Optical (the one w/ the 2 extra side buttons) a few weeks back and it appears that the USB ports just decide to die ramdomly. Sometimes I can unplug/plug in the mouse and it comes back again, but sometimes it doesn't. Gets real annoying playing CS since all I can do is run when it happens. =)

The board comes w/ 2 onboard USB ports and an extra two ports that take up one of the PCI slots (I have my Rio and scanner plugged into this). I have the most current BIOS, OS, and Intellimouse drivers installed for Win2K. Unfortunately, I no longer have my old USB mouse to eliminate if it's the new mouse or not.

Any ideas or anyone experience something similar before?

Thanks in advance.

i've had similar problems...seems anytime the scanner is connected and i plug in my pocketPC, i lose my mouse...weird weird stuff. i'm thinkin it's because they're all running into a hub, but i'm too lazy to troubleshoot. i just unplug the scanner before synching my pocketPC...never use the scanner anyway...thank god it was free after rebate.

hehe. Guess I'll try unplugging the Rio and scanner from the add on USB slot and see if that helps. This just seems really weird since there's no pattern to the mainboard's USB port outtages.

this is a common problem under XP...are you using that?

Otherwise, I'd say try a powered USB hub.

I'm still using Win2K. Haven't had a chance to upgrade OS' yet. Unplugged the scanner. Now I got the grueling task of playing a few rounds of CS to see if that helps. :D
