My MP3 players use SmartMedia. Can I just get a SmartMedia reader/writer and copy the MP3s onto the card? I have a D-Link DMP-100, Diamond Rio 300 and 500, and a Nomad II. I'd rather not have to install four different pieces of software if I could just drag and drop the MP3 files.

you should have no problems doing just that. i do the same thing with most of my memory stick compatable hardware. depending on the player, they may or may not be able to read directory folders. you could test it out if you want, or just put all the files in the root directory to simplify stuff.

You better check the specs. of your player. The majority of players perform some operation on the mp3s so as to prevent copying. Yeah, right, Napster be damned I am going to bring down the RIAA with my stinking flash card  The flashcard reader should be faster and a little simpler to use, but you'll most likely still need the third party software installed in order to use it.
