Has an official policy or a couple of basic rules been established on this forum? I know that fatwallet the other couch potato forum has some, and this might help newbies and not so newbies get an idea of what to do and what not to do when posting couch potato codes!

Quote from fatwallet.com CP forum:

We ask that you:
1. If you're new don't take it personal if someone confirms a code that you post. It is because we do not want our accounts terminated. Confirming is what works for us.
2. You confirm by actually hearing or seeing the word, Not by another source.
3.Don't post codes that you got from another forum or source.
4. DONT post GUESSED or put bonus event codes in early. Thats one way of getting you and everyone else terminated. Besides Monika(CP promotions) isn't taking that excuse anymore.
5. Make sure of the spelling. People will ride your _ss if you goof! Trust me on this! And YES! We know everyone makes mistakes.
6. Try to put the code in and see if it works first. Sometimes Fox6 puts a code up, it doesn't go through and you get credited later or maybe you won't.

I'm not sure wether I agree with not posting codes from another forum, If they confirmed it and you can confirm it (personal success), then why not benifit from it?
But there are some good ideas here, any thoughts?

Good post Jontas! Confirming a post is a good idea, but only when you actually see / hear it, etc. And to all the new people here, don't take it personally if I ask for a confirmation of your post. Once you develop a track record of posting good codes, it will be noticed. And to all of you that already have a track record here, I just want to say thanks for all of your work. Sometimes I see a lot of codes and I post them, other times I'm very busy and don't get any codes, so I rely on you guys. :thumb:

I couldn't ever enter last night's weather answer, and though I've been checking since 9am, I'm still not being offered any trivia questions from this morning's show. If anybody sees anything that benifits other couch potatos, they will post it (so you never need to ask!), nobody has any hidden agenda's or vindetas. Dignity and respect cost nothing. Also if someone has been here longer then you, they probably have some good advice and more experience.

Man this is exactly what I was afraid of. The reason I didn't say anything was because I figured everyone knew. I had just woken up and turned the TV on when I heard Marc Bailey announce they were going up at noon. I wasn't even interested in the Chargers Tickets. I was hoping for some cool DVD's. You guys were the ones obsessed with them. You can check and see that I never once made a post about the Chargers tickets beforehand. I also didn't say anything because yeah, I'm new, I didn't want to overstep my boundaries. You have to remember, theres alot of people who couldn't care less about Marc, Desiree, Fred, Ruben, Brian, Maria, Chrissi and the rest of the fox news team. Who just come to this site, never post, and just reap our well earned rewards. I believe in sharing codes. But getting prizes is a different game. If I want something which I know everyone else wants and on top of that the item is going to be extremely limited, I don't care, I'll keep the info to myself so I have a better chance of getting it.That's just life people.

P.S. I beleive this forum was intended to help out those who work and go to school during the news shows to have a better chance of earning points. People who actually enjoy watching the shows. If you use this site as your only source of info and codes, than I'm sorry, I don't think you should even be a couch potato. I believe in sharing not cheating. If your referring to my "lets keep things on the DL" remark that was about not letting administrators easily see what codes we use and exactly when we use them. I.E. that whole KNOWLEDGE code business. give me a break! If one of you guys wanted to keep info to yourselves because it would work against you otherwise. I wouldn't blame you. It's hard enough trying to get prizes without everyone on this forum knowing about it. Sharing codes is a different story. When it comes to getting the prizes I believe its the individual's responsibilty. I don't like being held personally responsible for the fact that people who wanted tickets couldn't get tickets. I mean why don't you guys just give me your e-mails and passwords so I can really be held responsible!

and I don't want to get in the middle of a fight, but the reason I even bothered to join, rather than lurk, at this forum, was so I could once in a while try to help too. As I said, my hours are crazy.. I am working when most of you are sleeping.. and I TRY to sleep during the day, often to little avail. So, I do use my VCR, but that didn't always work. If I see a new word or question, I come here first to see if anyone else has posted about it, after first checking to see that it works.. If it's not here, I post.

About the trivia.. I did get it today.. it didn't show up at 11, but, at 12:30, it was there. So, I posted the question and answer.. who knows why it worked for me and not others.

Tonight is my only night off this week  so I hope to actually get the chance to post the evening words, etc. I will post the answers if one of you fine folks don't beat me to it.

Confirming a code means that you personally heard it or saw it on TV. See, 'cause if you put it in a it works, it still might not be a valid code. It might be a fake one to "catch us".

At least that's how it's done over at FatWallet.

I find it kind of annoying to see the "confirming" posts, but it's the best and safest way to run things.

I was under the assumption you had to see or hear a code before posting it, and out of courtesy (and to make sure I remember it right) I always put it in before I post  it to make sure it's working (and if it isn't, I post that too.) I also like it when poster identifies where the code came from (e.g., FITM, Disney, Weather Trivia, CCU, newsletter, etc.)

As far as trusting that posts aren't fake plants from fox trying to trap those of us who share codes... it's not an invalid concern. :monkey: Sharing codes is expressly forbidden by the CP rules & restrictions and planting a fake code would be an easy way to target code sharers.

I hope this will answer some of your questions. First, when you sign up for couch potato rewards or any of the many other reward programs there will be a statement that sharing codes is prohibited and could be cause for account termination. The people at Couch potato know about these forums. And yes, by getting codes from this forum, you are breaking these rules. I know there has been at least one instance where someone at fox6 has posted a code on this forum and the code was a bad code. Of course the code worked. If it didn't, everyone here would have been tipped off. But the code had never been given out legitimately. The only way someone could have entered that code was if they got it from a forum, thus was cheating. About two weeks after they posted the code, everyone that entered it lost their account. Not fun if you've put a lot of effort into this. IMHO that is why it is always better to be cautious. If the rebel in you thinks that some caution is not worth it to you, you may feel it's better for you not to participate in this forum. If you can deal with a little bit of this paranoia, welcome to the forum.

Roots SD
08-26-2004, 11:46 AM
I agree. Unless you physically see the code for yourself on TV or website, (ex. SDCCU) than you shouldn't post the code. I have heard of administrators posting legitimate codes in advance to check who inputs them before they are ever on TV. Thus figuring out where they got it from. Remember, the codes you enter and the time you enter them are well recorded under your transactions page.

The friend that first told me about this forum had his account suspended. We have gone over this many times and since you've been registered on this board for a whole 2 days and have made 7 posts, you think we're making this up. I have been here for a long time. My account was suspended. The most likely reason for the suspension was I guessed the codes all the time. Their codes used to be real predictable. They would actually repeat codes using the same pattern. I entered codes before they would ever show up on TV. I would post them after I guessed them correctly. There was a Krusty code worth 500 points, whether that was a planted code we will never know, because that was a guessed code. I had around 40000 points when it was suspended. So keep sharing codes, but just don't start guessing codes. Of course anytime there is a new person you should always wait until someone else confirms the code.

It would be nice to know how many people actually benefit from this forum.

I looked at the entire rules today, after seeing all your posts. I haven't seen half the things you say, doesn't mean they are posting all the rules, I guess?

I just went at looked through all the rules because of this thread... I was wondering if they really had a rule against sharing codes - wondering if the paranoia over planted codes was valid, or not.

Come on guys. Can we drop this already? Can't we go back to sharing codes and being thankful for this "team" effort. If not than please take this to a different thread.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Hope you don't get an email like this:
According to our records, it appears that you have been entering Couch Potato codes that violate the rules of the Couch Potato Program. We're writing you to let you know that your account has been inactivated. If you have any questions please call the Fox 6/UPN 13 studios at 858-279-6666.

I entered that krusty code a while back cuz i got it from a friend, got 1000 points for itThere was a KRUSTY code recently that was valid. I believe the bad code came from 2002.

There have been accounts suspended on the star freeloader board as well.

iq190, all of this info has been available to you if you'd just use some of that high intellect to search this and other forums; but instead we must grind this forum to a halt because you think we are paranoid. You must feel important.

So this is my question to you mr iq190, what do you get out of making nonsense posts (shaolin soccer?), or just trying to cause trouble?

Ok, that explains the shaolin soccer. How about the trouble making? Are we done with that?

It's got nothing to do with being "top dog", it has to do with my frustration about when I comment about being careful about entering codes and am told that this is just a bunch of BS and I'm just being paranoid by someone that just registered on this forum 3 days ago. Now if popping off and calling me an ass makes you feel like a big man, more power to you. Do you feel important now?
