Something we need to go to. They will have a booth that will have the 500 pt code and then when we buy a wellness or old mother hubbard product and show the reciept to the people at the booth, we'll get the other code.

In case you didn't see when I posted this Thursday:

No word on the Star Wars videos, so I think you'll just have to get lucky and catch them there.

They always put items up on the hour, the most popular being 9, 10, & 10:30 a.m., 12 Noon, 4, 7, 10, &11 p.m. This may change with Monika from CP promotions now gone

If I had to guess, they'll dump them either tonight @ 11 p.m. or this weekend at one of the above-mentioned times. If they're still 'coming soon' on Tuesday morning, it's likely that Fred will give a time. You guys didn't miss anything this morning from Dred, as he is only on the show Tues-Thurs @ 7:45 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. I hope that helps -- Ben Dogg :boxing: :chef:

Question? About the surgi-eye center website. If you sign up every month...then that means they are going to call you each time you fill out the application....to get the code word, right. If we get the code word from someone on the forum here does it mean we still have to sign up ourselves........

All the radio and TV stations require you to give them your SS# when you come to pick up a prize.

GOURMET CP2, did you just find this forum? --Ben Dogg :wavey2: :winkie:

No I used to be a regular about a year or so ago and I just got burnt out. I was handling like 7 accounts and then I switched off with a friend. A friend asked me to get her the code cause i lived 1/2 mile away. So I figured i'd share the wealth since she handles my account now...

The eye people called me up too. And I was like I didn't email you guys. So then I figured someone hooked me up so I start asking the guy if they had intralasik or that wavelentgh or whatever its called and the dude didn't know shiot. I was like i'm not interested thanks.

I think SS# is required on any winning over 1099 or 1199 I know thats how it works at the Casino's.

BabyJ
12-12-2004, 11:48 AM
I think it's around $300 and up It's a different amount than the casino.
You would have to pay the tax. The station will give you a form to sign. At the end of the year you file it as income on your taxes. Say for instance you go to school and not considered a dependent, depending on the value of the prize you might get lucky and owe nothing.

I hope that helps! :)

cadetevon
12-12-2004, 04:24 PM
if someone won something, lets say the 42" plasma tv, do we haveta pay taxes on it? I've never given FOX my SS# so how could they report it?

Income (including radio stations, tv stations and casinos) totalling over $600 must be claimed on both federal and state income tax returns.

If a single prize is over $100 (or near to it) the station will have you fill out a form that includes your SS#. They will send you a W2 type form (maybe a W4??) if you go over $600 in a single tax year.

And if you're working accounts in another persons name, though I know no one HERE would do that... you gotta be careful about that $$ amout.

Guh! My sister got a call from Clear Channel the other day asking for her SS#... I think I won too many radio contests under her name. Blah!

Anyway, I hope this helps you out.

Itsme
12-12-2004, 04:31 PM
Here are the tax rules:

1. In theory, not matter how small the prize, by law you are to claim it and pay any taxes due. This means, that even if you were to win just a pencil worth a quarter, the law says you are to consider it as income. It gets added to your otehr income.

Of course, no one claims such small wins, and the IRS isn't going to come after you for such a small item.

2. Any prize valued at $600 or more, the judging agency or sponsor is required by law to send to the IRS a form 1099 indicating the value of the prize it gave you. So, for any prize $600 and up, the judging agency or sponsor will need to ask you your SSN#.

So, for any prize valued at $600 or more, the IRS will know you have been given suchg a prize, and in theory can cross-check your return to see that you claim the prize as income.

3. However, just because the sponsor or judging agency says the prize is valued at say $900, you do not always have to claim that as the value. The $900 will likely be the list price, but you might be able to buy the same exact item (say a TV at Best Buy) for $600. When you calculate the value for your taxes, you should only show the value as $600, not the list price of $900.

3. Even though the judging agency or sponsor does not need to report to the IRS any prize with a value under $600, they may want to keep track anyway, for their own records since they also have business taxes and the items they give away are expenses to them.

My experience with the local radio and TV stations is that even when I just win a CD or DVD, they (1) ask to see my driver's license as id, and ask me to fill out a form with my SSN#.

travisz

Travisz, I'm sure that, in the event you win something over like $150, they would make you fill out the IRS form before giving you the prize. --Ben Dogg

actually, "the person" didn't even get the call that he'd won. There was a voicemail from FOX saying congrats and "he'd" be contacted by Best Buy within the next 2 days to confirm the delivery address. All "he" did was sign for the delivery of the TV. Maybe they'll mail something out later.

Now if COX would just send out a damn HD-DVR that actually works. The drive crashed minutes after hooking it up :throw:

ONE ADMIT TWO PASS TO FLIGHT OF THE PHOENX (12/16 7:30 p.m. AMC La Jolla 12) 50 of these go up at 10 a.m. sharp this morning for the normal 2,000 points. Fred will be at this premiere, so you can meet him. He's super nice, but he is quite short!

ONE TRANS-SIBERIAN ORHESTRA CD AND PAIR OF SYMPHONY HALL TICKETS There are 15 of these and they will go up at 4 p.m. this afternoon for 15,000 points.

They will also be giving away more Star Wars videos, Tix to Lions of the Kalahari (which are worth it cause they cost like $12 each in Balboa Park!), I doubt these giveaway times will be announced. However, there will also be tix to see Racing Stripes (12/28 7 p.m. AMC MV 20). Any "rules" or "standards" you have here that the newbies should know about??

bendogg
12-18-2004, 01:52 AM
Yeah, Jontas, one of our members typed up some rules that I believe were inspired by some at Fatwallet. Anyway, here goes!

- Remember that FOX is watching, perhaps even participating, and sharing codes is against the CP rules. If they find out who you are, they will not hesitate to take away your points and cancel your account.
- Any private information related to your Couch Potato account (how much points you have, how you plant to spend them or what you may have already won) should be shared in a private message to another member of the forum if necessary.

2. We confirm codes.
- If you're new don't take it personal if someone confirms a code that you post. Confirming is what works for us.
- Poison codes do exist (Examples: krusty, golf2004), their intention is to catch those who brake the rules.
- You confirm by actually hearing or seeing the code (and recieving the code directly from the origional source), not by another source or testing the code to see if it works (Poison codes work too).
- No confirming your own post, a code and a confirmation are two seperate posts.

3. No Guessing or Cheating.
- Don't post guessed codes or put codes in early (like a bonus event that has not started yet or answer to a trivia question that has not been revealed yet).
- Only post a code if you see or hear it yourself, only confirm a code if you see or hear it yourself.
- Do not post a code from another forum unless that code has been confirmed by a Senior member on that forum. You also need to mention the forum you got the code from in you post.

4. Test all codes before you post them.
- Make sure you get your points in green letters (Trivia) or a green confirmation box (codes) that says "Congratulations".
- Make sure the spelling is correct once you post it, everybody makes mistakes, buy some mistakes could cost us all our points.
- Do not compete to see who can post their code first, if somebody beat you, you can always confirm.
- Red means stop (no posting the code whatsoever), sometimes the code is correct and FOX6 will reward you those points later with an email confirmation. By then it's usually too late to post that code, but we cannot afford to post the code under any uncertain conditions.

5. Listen to Senior members and respect fellow members.
- Senior members have alot of experience, which you can trust, and they usually know what's best. They have tons of great advice too.
- Provoking or belittling other members is unacceptable, if you can't respect and show basic curtisy to other people, you should not be participating in any forum - let alone this one.
- If this sounds paranoid or ridiculous to you, please refrain from making posts on our forum. You put the rest of us in jepordy.

6. Be specific about the source of the code.
- In addition to posting the code, give a source. For example FITM (Fox in the mornig), Simpson code, upn13 code, Fox6 10pm (News at 10pm), Special event (name the event) code, Internet code, etc.
- If you just post a code without a source, you will recive suspicion or even hostility from other members.

These rules are also on pg. 123 of this forum.

dogopoly
12-18-2004, 06:46 AM
thanks for those rules, bendogg. I guess I've been borderline on a few (I'll be more careful)

and what about those "poison" codes? are they planted for the purpose of weeding out?

BTW
I hope to get to Harley today to get the bonus code.
I was there Wednesday (silly me...long week...I thought it was Friday! ouch!) and they wondered how I knew about the code! You think they'd realize that these things have to be announced in advance so that people know about it...

Anyway, I'll post later if I hve a chance to get it...but I don't expect to spend $100 so I'll probably only get the 500-point code and not the 5000.

Is anyone else going so they can confirm this code?

Hey, Lieutentant, and thoughts on profile settings?
If I allow people to send me e-mail, is this done anonymously through the site (like I've seen on another board) or does it expose your e-mail to them?

BTW
If GoApex ever shuts down, let me know and I'll ask my buddy at www.Carobit.com to set up a separate area for us (although we can use one of the other topic areas.)

It's mainly geared toward technical computer help, but he set up topic areas for a bunch of other things too. He doesn't live in the U.S. so he could give a cr*p about the CP program, but he should have no problem with us using it (although you don't get rankings unless the poster closes the thread, so if that's what you're looking for it won't work.)

No, your e-mail address is not exposed in any way. They'll send you the same thing as a Private Message but you'll see it in your e-mail box instead of just a note that you have a private message. --Ben :bandit:

ok..I got the Harley 500-point code: model

For those who want to confirm, the one on Kearny Mesa Rd, its on a table in the far left corner when you go in the main entrance.

(Sorry, no 5000 point code---I didn't see $100 worth of stuff that I was willing to buy from them...maybe when I give in to that urge to rip down the road with the wind blowin' through my hair--or at least cutting through lanes of traffic during rush hour...)

Hello to all my old FW buds and hopefully new Apex buds. I am looking for a new code home and hope I found it. Looks good so far. :wavey2:
I am still freebieprincess although when I signed up I seem to have misspelled my own name. How lame....
I was used to being a Senior Member and now am just a plebe. Back to the bottom again--such is life.

I can confirm MODEL as the Kearney Mesa Harley show-up code. The word I get is the Downtown location has a different show-up code which I will not post here (the rules- I didn't see it myself!).

To all of you Fatwalleters, you're welcome! I am happy to be a liason to help you guys & gals with the transition. Also, Thanks Moderator for helping with some of these questions! --Ben Dogg :spam:

Anyway, talk to you guys later. Hopefully on Tuesday I will get back soon enough to start posting the codes.

FYI people:

Two new raffles ( http://xetv.sandiegocouchpotato.net/pg.cfm?pgn=raffles )

One I think closes at midnight to try to get the Robot. (Lots already trying to do this so odds are not good.)

The other one is New Years Eve party tickets.
"New Year’s Eve Gala, December 31st at Qualcomm Stadium. You and 5000 revelers can watch the Violent Femmes and Louis XIV perform LIVE along with many other talented acts. Plus, these all-inclusive tickets include food and drinks. "

Currently not many signed up, but this one closes on the 28th.

Being relately new here, I thought I'd speak up on this one. I know we've been competing lately to see who's the 1'st and I apologize for not making sure I did this first. It makes sense though to actually comfirm the points in your account first before posting the code on the forum.

Merry Christmas from the most wonderful place in the world!

Greetings Dogopoly;

You may want to hide your "signature" web URL. Just in case they can track you via that. I'd hate to see anyone else lose their accounts. After those poison code episodes, we lost a lot of good people.

Hello Freebieprincess :wavey2: Good to see you.

Are there any additional confirmations for the 5000 point word?
Not doubting, just super cautious (sorry).

Also confirming CLINCH

Not to mention...Mark made a boo boo! He said the "Padres" clinched the play-off spot, not the CHARGERS! Ha...and they think we're not really paying attention!

However, I'm sooooo looking forward to seeing OUR Pads play again this upcoming season. Can not wait to see Khalil healed and playing!!

I can confirm CLINCH as well.

And i'll ask this again since I posted it over the weekend and it may have been overlooked:

Sorry, BoxZGirl.

I've heard the one in UTC/La Jolla is west on the west coast, but I think the downtown one is in its second year and I haven't heard anything....and based on your profile, I guess that would be a long drive for a mediocre party.

Of course, any new years party is better than hanging out along so definitely make your own party if downtown doesn't work out. (Oh, and invite us all ;) )
