I have the last genereation apple CRT studio display (uses a Trinitron tube) and am noticing a fair amount of wobble running at 1280x1024. is this normal or is there an issue with the monitor. 1280x1024 runs at 75hz. there is no wobble running any resolution below this

Try switching the frequency, what happens? It should be cystal clear. What if you go higher on the resolution? You may want to call apple. They are usually pretty good on stuff like that.

you could be getting interference at that frequency. Happens to me sometimes - I live by transmission lines and sometimes it wobbles the screen unless I default to 60 or up it to some odd number.

same here.
I have mine at 1152x864@100hz. That keeps it relatively wobble free.

Anything under 70Hz and you clould see some flicker/wobble.

what kind of lights do you have around you?

could be your video card too.

Don't have that last beer. I've found that cuts down the wobble on my monitor by quite a bit. ;)

thanks for all of the replies! still getting some wobble, going to try another outlet when i get home from work...sounds like maybe it could be an electric type thing. running 1600x1200 @ 60hz isn't too bad...a little wobble, but probably and expected amount for 60hz. The lighting isn't flouresent, so i don't think that is the problem. I really hope it isn't the video card, since it is a brand new power mac sending the signal...i'll post updates when i mess with it tonight.

60Hz? Doesn't that hurt your eyes?

yeah, it would hurt my eyes. i was just saying the wobble at 60hz was less noticeable than the wobble at 75hz and this doesn't seem right.

i moved my computer to the other side of the room and the wobble decreased, so i guess it was a power/interference thing.

Yeah, that is exactly what happened with my monitor. In one room, everything is fine, but the moment I plug the monitor in in another room, it gets lines and starts to wobble. I think it has something to do with the wiring in this house... After all, this house is about 130 years old.

Oh, and on a side note, Mac/Apple slipped for a bit when it came to building quality monitors (I think this was mainly with iMacs, but it also happened with a few of the monitors they sent out with G4 towers). Anyway, a teacher I know who runs a tech class and an all Mac lab was constantly complaining about the slipping quality. Out of 40 iMacs, he had to send 4 back in the first month because they display had started to go out. He told me that this had happened the the G4s as well, and he had more problems customer service than he'd ever had before. I guess it got to the point that he was considering switching to a PC lab!

Anyway, that was about a year ago, and I haven't heard anything recently. So I guess Mac fixed their stuff.
