View Full Version : Why I'm tired of the internet

Stupid people - I'm tired of reading post after post of ignorance. That's not to say I'm not ignorant about some things, but I don't go shooting my mouth off about what I don't know.

Stupid websites - The quality of the average website has gone to the toilet. Especially with all the Pop-up/under/over ads. And everything good is pay. The only quality I find is on Non-flash, independant sites. Comic sites are fantastic b/c the focus is on the art, not the buttons surrounding it. I do not partake of the internet to waste my time finding out which button goes where.

Big site/little connection - As we all know, it's frustrating to use a page that's slow. But it's getting out of hand. If you plan on having a good site, get a good connection. I know it's not ecconomically easy, but whatever. I still hate it.

L33t speak - You're not cool, knock it off.

No liquor - I know you're all behind me on this one.

And lastly, the interface - This is mostly the fault of a few. Namely Microsoft, Netscape, AOL and whatever standards group is popular today. We're using technology that's over 5 years old to view info about the latest and greatest. There are better interfaces. This crappy one is clunky and ugly. Think about it. I know technology doesn't just jump out of a lake, but come on! We need more money going to colleges like MIT to fund interesting projects. Right now it's all going to someone's pocket or to fix something that's been broken/breaking for 5 years.

That's it. I'm tired of it. But I'll still keep using it....

i agree with net advertising, it blows and is very obnoxious. I refuse to shop/support any sites that advertise themselves with popups/unders (x10, classmates.com, casions, etc) And i dont support any sites with tge obnoxious flashing banners, or poorly designed banners. If its tasteful, then I will consider.

If a site uses an animated banner, than chances are I will ignore it. Same with the ads that appear on the pages content until you click the close icon. Its not going to win you over my business.

I am glad to see developers like the omnigroup and the chimera projects that are helping eliminate this by making software that recognizes urls and eliminates their need to popup. I also like the fact that they allow me to specify the number of times an animated image will play before it quits playing.

There are several ugly sites out their. I kinda find some of them humorous. They all seem to be made buy somebody using frontpage. They always have that "Look what i did with the template" look and feel to them.

Good website designs are hard to come by these days. Most sites that are nicely designed are usually self promotion/resume sites. I wish there were more sites like got|apex that were nicely designed, a great forums, great content, and dont pop up 50 windows every time you visit so the webmaster can make .005 cents off of you.-

Ask Nija, he seems to know Rosie and her 5 friends rather well.

I'm not tired of the internet, but I'm a lot more choosier on what sites I visit. Of course, Got | Apex is my homepage. I'll visit here, a couple of deal sites and maybe some shopping sites (if I find good deals) /. for some news, and Google for my searching. I'll go to some other sites occasionally if I'm looking for something specific.

Sometimes there's so much information out there, you have to wade through a lot of garbage before getting what you want. You could surf 24/7 and never fail to find something new.

I must disagree. I for one can stay away from the internet for 5 minutes if I wanted to. hmm, now the problem is how do I get myself to "want" to stay away? :P

No, but he keeps complaining that they aren't small enough for him.

I dunno... I just got back from a 10 day vacation... and in that entire time, G|A was the only site I missed.

I surf a fair amount, but most of it is just filling time. There's very little out there that really interests me anymore. Most of the web is becoming just a tool to me, a very commercialized one, and I wouldn't miss it any more than I'd miss any other appliance....

I have to agree with every one of those. I can honestly say though I am using it about half as much as I used to, and most of that time is school stuff. YAY!

i'm not tired of the internet.

got|apex provides me with enough content (or stupid posts, as the case me be :hihi: ) to waste a sufficient % of my workday.

anytime that i need to find a quick answer to most any question, google is there for me.

my sports fix is met by yahoo and a few other sites.

if i want to read in-depth news, i can always check out the nytimes, washingtonpost, or latimes online and get quality news reporting.

i find way too many things to buy on a variety of online shopping sites.

whenever i want to find out indepth information about a variety of topics, i can usually find it onlne....

so to sum up, while i agree with Blu and others that there are things that could be improved on the internet, on average it is pretty good, and it meets my needs. so i say it's all good :)

:stupid:

The internet has always been nothing more than a tool for me. Right now, I am only using G|A? so that I can have some intelligent (or not so intelligent) conversation... :shifty:

Nah, just kidding, I love you guys...

...really... :shifty:

As far as the internet, I think its good to have it. Very convenient.
As far as web browsing, I find myself with less and less interesting things to browse for.
Web content sucks. Too many amateurs thinking they can design and putting their trash for everyone to see. I'm not talking about personal webpages. But legit businesses and information pages. Its called web DESIGN for a reason. Dropping text and cute little animated gifs into Dreamweaver or Frontpage is not called design.
Ads...what can i say? I hate those that purposely try to deceive you. Like the flashing type or the ones that says you have email. ARGH. Don't get me started about popups. Damn them all to hell.
Lastly. Spam email. One of the most F'ed up forms of direct marketing. Bad enought that I get it in my real mailbox. I gotta get it on my electronic one too.

i just don't know how people can spend a lot of time just surfin the web. wut are you looking for? and spam...i hate spam. 7/8 of my email is spam. and it takes up all the space too. i really don't think people actually look at spam. so it's just a waste of time. you'd think the owners would catch on quicker

and pop ups. i mean loading up a page is slow enough on my 36.6 modem and then there are pop ups that slow it down even more *sigh*

I don't really web browse because there really isn't much interesting stuff out there.
I don't read my spam mail either, but the fact that its in my mailbox, hogging up bandwidth bothers me. The fact that of the 20 emails I get in my inbox a day, 1 or none of them are legit emails from people I know bothers me. Worst yet, I hate it when they try to sell me crap I would never be interested in.

You ever notice popups always load before the website you're trying to get into?

Well it seemed like one of the more normal topics...
Came here to post some polls and just came across it. I remember back in high school I was glued to the net...now that I am in college and working I don't have time for it anymore. Plus it's just the same old crap pretty much. It seemed to reach a certain point as far as content and then stay there.
