Ya, exactly. There is still Blink.
Yeah it is a side project. They don't play the same type of music. Boxcar is more "Emo" where as Blink is "Pop-Punk".
...
and Travis is a great drummer.

i cant stand blink or sum41 or other bands like that.
I prefer the harder stuff, and stuff that has good guitar playing.

i have not heard anything by "boxcar racer", so i won't judge them.
however, i will say that in my opinion, Blink and Sum41 both try to do the same things that many other bands have done before them, except that they do a much worse job than the bands they copy.
damn you all....now i have blink songs running through my head....ahhhh

i agree. Thankfully i dont know the words to their songs. Instead I have NIN going through my head.
IMO I think Sum41 is stupid because they are pretty much pop punk but try to deny it. Blink 182 is not even a serious band, they joke about everything, they're pop-punk but they know it and they like to play it off it, they're funny. I don't like Box Car Racer cause now they're trying to act serious but it's the same damn music. Anyways, that's my 2 cents.

Ok, i dunno what you're talkin about, but trust me, they're not just hitting strings constantly. They've got some songs that take skill to play. In addition, Box Car Racer is kind of Tom's way of showing Mark that he can do it without him. Mark is the oldest in Blink and he's kind of like the big brother or dad, and he's always telling tom not to do stuff, so tom wanted to prove he could do it without mark. I think he did a pretty good job.
Edit: Almost forgot, Travis kicks ass, and he didnt get kicked out of Aqua Bats, he left after scott raynor left blink to "Join a band that's gonna make it big".

blink songs are often taught as beginner songs. they are not that complex, and not that entirely difficult. Try some DMB, or metallica, and you will see what a real song is composed of

Give 'em the credit that they can write simple stuff that sounds good, because sometimes that can be harder than writing the complex stuff. Why do you think bands like Green Day and Blink are so successful? Simplicity.

simplicity - not in my mind. commercialization and against the grain. look at all the merchandise sold with their logo. Plus look at the lyrics. If an album takes about anal sex or swears allot, a kid will find it cool. Its contains things like that that causes them to sell.
Look at 2 Live Crew from the 80's. Their music was funny, but it sold do to what it contained.
I know that blink does sell as much as they do due to the lyrics and commercialization, but its a big part of it.
Music in my mind isnt about being raunchy or because somebody says its cool. Its about the actual content, the meanings of the song, the structure of the song and things of that nature. Not all bands from today are so shallow, but a vast majority of them are. Songs like "Smack my bitch up", "Thong Song", "Heretic Anthem", and "all the small things" have no true point except to sell records.
Todays music has for the most part, drifted from what made a good rememberable song. We dont have any Stairway to heavens today, or Tamborene man's. Instead we have bands that will produce a few songs and disappear. 20 years from now, people wont be listening to britney saying "wow, this song changed my life" or "this song descirbes the way my life was during the time it was released"
All in all, todays music has very little, if any meaning to it. Its mostly crap. Hopefully we will once again have a period like the sixties and early seventies in which music will not be as shallow.

i agree with you to a certain extent, but i just don't think blink does near as well with the "simplicity" as some of the earlier punk bands.
i'd much rather listen to "beat on the brat" than hear "the girl at the rock show".
however, i also strongly believe that music is very much a matter of preference. what works for you may not work for me, and vice versa

Why do you think bands like Green Day and Blink are so successful? Simplicity. Nirvana songs contain some of the most simple riffs, yet I don't consider Cobain a sissy for taking the easy way out. Too bad I can't say the same about his life... :(

I'd much rather listen to stuff like AFI, Ramones, Sex Pistols, MxPx, stuff like that. I dont listen to any blink that came out after Enema of the State. That's when it all went to hell. Buddha kicks ass, as well as dude ranch.

Ya, it's rather sad. I used to remember when they didn't do that so much. I used to like them more. The last concert of theirs i went to, i walked out of only after a couple of songs. It pissed me off, they were singing to all the 12 year olds. And on my way out i saw a whole but of little 12 year old girls buying blink thongs. Since then I have little respect for them. But I do have to give them credit. I think they were one of the main contributors to making punk more popular.
On a side note, I thought it was hilarious when bad religion was playing before blink at that concert (the main reason i went). Me and two of my friends were the only ones up in the seats having a good time. everyone else was just sitting there waiting patiently for blink.

ok then AFI, sex pistols, and the ramones are no longer considered "punk" if "bink" is.
no, punk is used for two things. the punk movement and punk rock. punk rock is just a way of classifying a type of music. ramones gave the music the look, the sex pistols perfected it. As far as the punk movement, i think that all died out when **** stopped being shocking and stuff starting being "Cool." And if it didn't die in the 80's then hot topic sure as hell killed it. As far as punk rock , it's just a type of music and i'd have to say Blink 182 is punk rock.
