Well?

Eh.. What's to hide? It's not as if you folks know who I am. Upper $40s for me... not including my wife's salary, of course.

I'd trade $10K for a job with a little satisfaction or sense of accomplishment, though.

The money is nice, (living in central Wisconsin is cheap) but i really despise my job...

Cost is living is huge. Upper $40k will go a long way in Wisconsin versus New York where you have to live in a closet.

Yep. Low cost of living is really nice. A basic apartment here is $400 a month.

We live in a roughly 2000 square foot house with a huge yard and a lot of privacy. Rent is $800.

You can build a nice house on a decent lot for $125-150K. We'll do that here in a while, but not until we move somewhere farther north, and I have a job I know I'm going to stick with for a few years.

Salary really doesn't mean much unless it's balanced against cost of living.

You can build a 7 bedroom house in Apple Valley (Like 100 miles north of Los Angeles) for like $125-150k. But why would you want to live out there? Nothing but desert. But I hear Midwest living is pretty darn inexpensive for everything.

It's pretty good. But there are tradeoffs, like everything. And there's a LOT of variation.

My younger brother makes nearly double what I do, but he works in Milwaukee. He has a long commute on bad roads.

I could easily make a lot more money than I do by moving to a large city. But what good would it do me? I did it for a few years, and it wasn't worth it. I moved back here. Where I'm at, I walk 3 blocks to work in the morning, which leaves me a lot more time for myself each day when my commute is a 10 minute walk. I've got 3 nice uncrowded lakes within 15 miles to use my boat. The air is clean. My neighborhood is quiet. There's no traffic. Crime is low. Living is cheap.

There's no nightlife, but I'm married and too old for that anyway.

Much nicer to open the patio doors and hear birds rather than gunshots and sirens.

My wife and I will move even farther north here in a year or so... and probably make even less money. But it's well worth the tradeoff to us.

But for the sake of discussion, let's just say that I'm between the $25,000 to $100,000 mark. :shifty:

I'm Bill Gate's son and I get $30,000/year allowance. Nexy year I will get $30,000. The year after that I will get $30,000. So, it pretty much increases each year the same amount he pays shareholders dividends.

Personally, I make zero. Dh makes anywhere between $40-50,000, depending on overtime. I dread the day they make him salaried!

You got that right. I make $60,000 plus bonuses as a Senior Programmer Analyst (my official title.) I've compared my position and standard of living with others in my industry, and I've been told it's the eqivalent of making $150k in San Francisco.

i'm slightly over $50k, with overtime.

compared to other major metro areas, detroit is fairly cheap with respect to cost of living (i would have to be making at least $15-$20k more to have the same standard of living on either coast that i have here).

but like jase said, and like i said yesterday, i'd take a $10k pay cut for a job where i was happier

i'm in the 10K - 25K range and i'm completely satisfied with my salary. i don't really love my job all that much but the money covers most, if not all, my needs.

My money goes into 401K. I need a night life or the option of night life. I would only move out to the midwest if I had a Phat Internet Conncection and then I can just interact with everyone and play games. And of course cable...need cable tv. :P

Yes, even here in sparsly populated Western Minnesota we have cable TV and broadband. I just priced a new provider for our office - basic cable plus 512k is $50 a month.

There's probably only 25-30 of us here with jobs. If you want to increase the sample size, you're going to have to add "Babysitting" and "Paper Route" categories (or a student section).

BTW, I'm in the $100-$250k group.
