what do you use to clean your monitors and scanners? i had a bunch of kids over in the last few days and now i have smudges all over my trinitron :(. they also got into the scanner which had reletively few smudges and fingerprints on it before. i was going to use windex, but i figure water would be the safest thing to use. i was also thinking of using a eyeglass lens spray. whats the best for these surfaces?

Dunno about the scanner - probably windex, since it's just clear glass.

For the monitor - just water & paper towel. Solvents can damage the coating on the screen.

Here's what I do & it works pretty well:

Get a damp paper towel & a dry one. Use the damp one to wipe the fingerprints off the screen then IMMEDIATELY dry it off. If you don't dry it right away, you get water marks that are worse than the fingerprints.

You may have to do this a couple of times before you get them all.

I would shy away from paper towels. Monitors have a very fragile anti-reflective coating on them. A towel may leave tiny scratches. Use real monitor cleaner or wipes. I think 3M makes a pretty good cleaner. Either that or use a soft, 100% cotton towel or rag.

Umm.... what about laptop screens? Not the hard ones like the Vaios. I've got a Dell Inspiron 4100 with those fragile screens. Anyone know how to get greasy fingerprints off the screen?
