View Full Version : Lost wedding ring?

My wife weighs about 20 pounds less now than when we were married, so her wedding ring has been kind of loose for the past few years. A couple weeks ago, she noticed that it was missing. We have narrowed down the time of loss to a couple hours, but in that time she went to a resturant, a clothing store and worked in our garden. We've called the resturant and store and searched the garden several times with a metal detector. We've pretty much given up and consider it lost for good.
What do people usually do when this happens? Do you buy a new ring? If so, should I buy it for her (like a gift) or does she pick out her own? She is really upset, since she's worn it non-stop for over 17 years.
I've even thought about having my wedding band resized for her, since then she'd have that "17 year continuity" that she apparently values.
I guess what I'm asking is if there's a "standard" solution to this type of situation.

if you can't find it the only choice is to buy a new one.
i would surprise her with it, and add some verbal sentiments to show her that it's not the ring that matters it is her. :)

If money isn't an object... how about this?
Have your wedding band resized. Remove some of the metal from it, and replace it with new metal (gold, I'd assume).
Take the gold removed from your wedding ring and have it incorporated into a new ring for your wife... maybe reshaped as the fitting for the stone, or worked into the band when it's resized to fit your wife.
It wouldn't be the cheapest way to go because of all the extra work involved... but it would let you keep your ring, and let her have a piece of the 17 years that are tied up in your ring, so her "new" one would have a link to the original set...
