Has anyone had any incompatability issues with WinXP Pro and Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum eX? I'm not able to control my speaker setup using the Audigy's system (this worked in Win98), and when I use the speaker setup in WinXP control panel, it changes, but the speakers don't change. I'm stuck using 2 speakers.
Just curious if anyone else out there is experiiencing this...

i have that setup. i haven't tried using the external box.. nor have i hooked it up to my 4.1 speakers. I had compatibility issues, and wasn't able to install the drivers.. but somehow I managed to get it to work with my subwoofer/speaker system.. but thats not to say that it works perfectly.. but it works for basic purposes right now..

I'm using my Audigy in Win2000, but the OS is very similar and driver package from creative is the same.
I'm loving it---best $60 I've spent in a long time.
I've had no problems configuring my speakers, albeit I don't use the front panel. I have noticed one *little* caveat, when using EAX or dolby audio in games (MOHAA, Jedi Outcast, C&C Renegade) the sounds that the player makes are really quiet. I cant help but think this is abnormal, as I have to turn up my center channel speaker to hear the player's sounds (reloading, talking, etc)

Turns out that my incompatability issue is with Audiohq (speaker and misc. config in WinXP control panel). Somehow that has disabled winXP's speaker config too, because no matter what setup I choose, it's always the same...including using no speakers...doh.
Creative has come out with 2 driver updates, one fairly recently if I recall correctly, but none update the Audiohq problem I'm having.

I might wreak havoc on my computer by trying the updated drivers for other operating systems, but I think I'll do it anyway. I've found that the SB Live 5.1 Platinum works perfectly in XP....
Isn't AudioHQ part of Creative Bloatware™? I installed only the drivers.

perhaps.. but when we have the eX.. we may need the AudioHQ bloatware.. cuz theres firewire, remote control, and the whole external box from the Platinum eX that may need it. I haven't installed all my crap yet so I don't know what it needs exactly.

you just need the drivers, not the bloat.

Thanks for all the advice. Hopefully I'll get it all figured out before I get fed up with it :)

Well, after some failed e-mail replies from creative, I finally got Audiohq to work properly. I don't know if this is good "advice" for anyone with this the eX sound card, but this is what I did.
I did a full reinstall of everything. There was a problem with some USB drivers for the Nomad II, finished installing and restarted. When I got back to the desktop, I got a message saying I needed to reinstall my audio hardware. I reinstalled the drivers only(btw, this reinstalling is all from the disk, not from updates). Again, hardware not installed correctly, so I uninstalled the Nomad II drivers and reinstalled the drivers only again twice more. Now everything is working....I haven't made the attempt to install the updates from creative.com.
That's my story...
