Wireless Network, 2 houses, 1/2 mile apart.

Anyone know much about doing something like this. My friend and I want to connect our houses. We already have a 9Dbi omni-directional antenna for wardriving that we could incorporate on my friend's roof. I was thinking of getting a 19dbi directional panel antenna to put on my house. Think that would work? There would be some trees in the way and a few rooftops, but I know there are weaker Yagi antennas that I have seen that are 14dbi and can go 10 miles line of site, so I'm hoping it can do 1/2 mile not line of site.
