This may sound like a silly question, but I bought a Yamaha 24X burner which has underrun protection.
In the manual, it said to enable DMA for the burner, so I did. I also decided to enable DMA for the hard drive. I only recently found out about that capability for the hard drive. It also stated that if you
enable DMA, the system could become unstable, and if that happens, return to the original setting.
Well, I checked off "Use underrun" under CDRWIN and I burned a disc (direct from my Plextor 24/32 reader) and it only took 4-1/2 minutes. The next CD ( almost same size) took 5-1/2 minutes, the next one 9 minutes. The more discs I burn, the worse it gets.
Then when I exit CDRWIN and attempt to do anything else, the computer freezes up. CTrl'Alt-Delete doesn't even work.
I have a feeling is has something to do with what happens to the junk that is left over with the underrun protection, because something seems to be piling up.

It does sound like the buffer is not getting flushed. Have you tried any other programs? CDRWin might not be able to clear the buffer with the Yamaha 24x for some reason. How about when you restart, do the CDs burn at the nice quick speed? If so I think we found the problem.

I am not sure of your question, but it seems that the further into the disc, the process seems to lag.
I also forgot to tell you that I am direct burning from a Plextor 14/32 SCSI reader.
Nero seems to have no problem, but Nero will not copy CDG discs, which I also forgot to mention.
