I just got one of those WD1200JB drives and got a 28960 on a benchmark I did just before this post. The drive is only running at UMDA-4 because I don't have a UMDA-5 cable around. What is LBA and CHS and how do I switch it on?

Also CF, I noticed that Sandra reference scores show a ATA100 7.2Krpm 120GB. I'm using Sandra Pro 2002 and just updated a couple days ago and its not showing that. How did you get it.

thats weird cuz mine its currently at udma5 as well so thats working and i still have a lower score then you do, to change to lba n chs u go into the bios where it shows your hard drives and dvd/cd drives n just click enter on the HD u want to config. also would having the hard-drive being Fat32 have any affect on the results?

I get SCSIs in the reference list, but I don't see any 120GB. I used the WebUpdate Wizard to update and I'm using Sandra Pro so I can't uninstall it and reinstall a fully updated version without buying it again. I can live without it but it would be nice to have. Thanks anyway :) .

d12agonxboi, I'm using NTFS also. I just defraged it so that may be why its working faster. If you have alot of fragments your file system will slow down. Hope that helps. It took me a LOOOONG time to defrag it because its such a big drive.

well i have a cable that came with an older WD HDD and it's ATA 100 and i checked Sandra and its showing UDMA5 so everything is set, i'm thinking about defraging the main C drive, hopefully that will work, thats the only drive that they recommend for me to defrag as well thanks for the tip

I changed both of my drives to LBA from AUTO mode and left the rest of my setting as they were. Now my benches are around 26K. Should I change other settings?

I got my 120GB from Dell and it didn't come with any cables so I'm using the ATA66 that came with my old drive. What's a good price for certified ATA100 cables?

My guess is that they are 2 WD SE's in RAID 0...

Yes on all counts: 2 120G WD SE on Raid 0. I've got the drive split between Win98 and XP (with multiple partitions for each). I was running 98 at the time.

I was wondering about CF's experience with setting the drives to LBA, but the Highpoint doesn't give me any option for that: only UDMAn and PIOn, so I've got them selected as UDMA5.

i just got a WD 120GB SE with Mpowered (we bought 2 drives for $136 each). how should i set it up in the bios? when i set it to LBA, i get the same scores in sandra as when its set to AUTO in the bios. also, on the setup page in the bios it says that Match Partition Table mode is the reccomended setting. it also gives me the following options: LBA, LARGE, Normal, Match Partition Table, and Manual. whats the best to setting for it.
unfortunately my mobo only supports UDMA4 (Asus P3V4X with 1006 beta bios, anyone know otherwise, it only shows UDMA 1-4)
