Are you using stock cooling?

So, I noticed over at overclockers.com a lot more ppl are using stock cooling, especially since the huge Al coolers that AMD and Intel are putting on their retails cpus.


So, I was a little curious (and bored) and wondered who is using stock cooling *on their P4s or XPs.*

I have a P4 1.6A running at a max temp of 18 degrees over ambient at 2.12 GHz (133fsb). Max temp so far is 52C under 20 min Sandra stress test. This is with the stock Intel HSF

I bought a retail Proc/HSF and promptly swapped it out in favor of a Coolermaster HHC-001. The sucker is LOUD but does a great job of cooling. My CPU temps never go above 45 Degrees Celsius, even after multiple Sandra stress tests. Of course, my 5 case fans probably don't hurt, either...

I am using a Water-Cooled system for my machine. I will be changing back to Fans soon though, I don't like this water cooled system at all. Having to change Water every few months or when it is hot and there is a lot of evaporation is pissing me off.

i'm using a volcano 7 with 3 fans in the case =)

Currently running a volc7+ at low speed(1.6a @2Ghz) and no other fans in this case(modding my main case).
When ocing, 5 fans 2 in front 2 in back and a top blowhole and the 7 at whatever it takes in main case.
Stock cooling is fine for the pent4s IMO.

I would love to get some of your computers together to find out just how loud some of them are.

My comp is fairly quiet, the PS (350W) is nearly inaudible, and I have silent Panaflos; 120mm in and 80mm out (with the PS) All mathematically, 60cfm in from the 120, 25 out from the 80, plus the PS fan (I estimate 30). The only vent I use is a small on near the AGP to cool the card. I think my hard drives produce the bulk of my comps noise, and they are fairly quiet too.

Newer cases should use more 120mm fans-they move a lot a air with nearly no sound.

I currently have a Volcano 7 HSF with a bunch of fans.

I am in the middle of assembling my water cooling system and have finally purchased the final piece of my system: a surplus 32lb copper radiator (a little smaller than a legal size piece of paper and 2 1/2" thick) that is supposed to be used as an oil-cooler for an 80KW diesel generator. I have no idea how I'm going to mount it to my Antec case, but I've got two 120MM fans waiting to be mounted on it.

It may be a little overkill, but it's definitely going to quiet the wind-tunnel I currently have going through my case.

OMG - you just described some of the renters that are next door to me...

Ok - it may be a little overkill... the guy I'm buying it from used several of them to cool a high-wattage laser display.

When I told him about my system and the total heat load, he remarked, "you know, with the coil you're using and the amount of heat you're dissipating, you can probably compare yourself to the u.s. forestry service, two different batallions replate with orange uniformed prisoner workers cutting fire lines, and choppers overhead making waterdrops, for a trash can blaze. If nothing else, you have built a lot of peace of mind into the system. Did you ever consider hooking up the local dry cleaners? They always have a lot of extra btu's to get rid of..."

The really fun thing is when I get to see how far I can tweak my athlon XP with this new cooling system...

Funny...I've often thought of a way to tap into my apt's central air unit. I could use the airconditioner to cool the computer in the summer, and the computer could heat the apt in the winter time.

It would be..(wrings hands like Monty Burns) "Exxxxcelllllent!
