external cd / cdr / dvd w/ firewire.

is the data transfer alright on these? how will it effect these drives? will it cause dvd's to skip when i play them? will i still be able to burn at full speed? blah?

the data transfer rate is great. You would think the drive was internal. There is also almost no CPU overhead from firewire. As far as playing A dvd goes, you shouldnt have any problems. I only have an external HD, and I plan on getting a CD-RW drive eventually. Everyone I know that has a FW cd-rw drive says its great
