I was just at Microcenter on Saturday and they have a bin full of USB 2.0 A/B connector cables for $1. I got one and a 4-port USB 2.0 PCI card for $20. Switched out the parallel printer cable from my printer and used the USB cable instead and everything worked fine. I think it actually prints a little bit faster when I was creating some CD Labels.

Worth the money since I bought the same type of cable from CompUSA for like $15 or $20.

from my experience, a printer connected via USB is faster than the same printer using parallel. Not only does it consume less in terms of processor usage, but the data is sent to the printers buffer quicker allowing the printer to process it without having to wait for the next chunk to be sent
