View Full Version : I'm back - and may be leaving again

Welp, I'm finally done with my California sojourn. Something like 4500 miles in the last three weeks, including two round trips from Everett to Rough & Ready (where my dad lives). 774 miles one way. One round trip to my brothers house from my dads, and two round trips from my dads to my nieces house.

That's plenty for now, thank you. Gotta love 45mpg though.

I got to see nearly everyone on this trip, and I'm in good spirits because of it. I got to meet my newest niece, Madison, and she's a sweetheart. She's a happy baby, talks and smiles a lot.

Anywho, the job thing isn't working for me in Seattle anymore. I got to talking to my brother (oldestbro), and he'll give me a job if I move back. It'd be completely opposite of the computer work I've been doing - construction. Only $12/hr to start, but tons of room for advancement (and raises). He's been there about 10 years and is the #4 guy in the company.

I've long had an interest in home construction, and I've worked with both of my brothers and my dad on several home projects, and done a few of my own, so this wouldn't really be new territory. After talking it over at length with oldestbro, I can already see tons of opportunities for building my own house relatively soon - far sooner than if I stay here. CA is also a leader in RE adoption, what with buy-down programs and all. Definitely a plus. I can already see my straw bale house with a nice ground-source heat pump... but I digress.

If this happens, it won't be for at least two months, likely 4-5 before things come to a head. I love Seattle, but Everett is a pit, and if I have to move CA is as good a place as any. Better even, since the bulk of my family is there. And, if it happens, my online time will be seriously curtailed. But that's ok - y'all haven't seemed to

Angeleyes is another matter that I won't go into just yet... I'm torn to shreds on that topic.

Good luck making your decision. Spend lots of time with Angeleyes, and maybe when it's time, she'll go with you!

long distance relationships either suck, or become the thing that brings you closer.

wow oc! sounds like you have a cool opportunity. at the very least, you have options, which are always good :)

i'm glad your trip went well, too. that's a lot of driving, but at least you didn't have any road problems or accidents or anything.

anyway, it's good to have you back, at least for awhile :D

Sounds like a good move, OC...

I hope it works out for you. Getting out of IT is
a pretty appealing idea, too. I'd do it in a heartbeat
if I had a good opportunity like that.

Yeah, long distance relationships do suck. Before you go into it... make sure that it is worth the pain. If you decide that it is, good luck. I'm in the same boat. It sucks, but IMO definitely worth it. :)

She's put way too much work into her education and career. Not many opportunites for a cellular biologist on her way to her PhD in the area I'll be in. More like zero, actually.

I'd wash dishes and dig ditches if it meant I could stay and be with her.
