Anybody know of a cheap component video switcher? I heard if you don't need the audio, you could just get a RCA switcher, and use the 3 plugs just for the video. Anybody tried this?

How cheap is cheap? You can get a good one for $75, and an excellent one with remote for $185. You can also use a standard switcher (though you probably won't get matched 75ohm connectors) for low resolution for maybe $20-30.

I wouldn't need a remote, but it would be nice not to have any loss in quaity, which I see from the thread Leon pointed out, that can happen with a normal RCA switcher.

Loss of quality will happen if you don't use matched 75ohm connectors. How much of a loss depends on the bandwidth of the video you're feeding through there. If it's something DVD quality and below, the difference won't be that big.

Yeah, but that ones not component!

Apex where's this 75 dollar one you speak of? I looked into Y splitters, and they are 15 bucks each for the high bandwidth ones, so I might as well get a real splitter for 75 bucks.

Thanks Apex, you rock. That site has some pretty cheap component cables (http://www.etronics.com/search1.ASP?txtsearch=component+cable&image1.x=5&image1.y=10) too. You think any of those are worth buying?

After alittle research, looks like the Acoustic Research AP091 (http://www.audioreview.com/Cables/Acoustic,Research,AP091/PRD_128872_1584crx.aspx) might be a great buy, espically for 25 bucks!

Yes it is... Go to www.terk.com (http://www.terk.com) and look under installation hardware. It has a copy of the manual there and it has pics...

BTW, I saw one almost identical in a Navy Exchange last night. It was in the Playstation/XBox area and cost $19.95.

Am I missing something here?

Audio Inputs: 4
S-Video Input: 4
S-Video Output: 1
Composite Video Inputs: 4
Composite Video Output: 1

I don't see anything about it having component input/output.

Go to the site and pull up the brochure (.PDF file). It shows that each input has 3 RCA (video, L and R audio)/1 S-Video in (x 4 input sources) and the output has 3 RCA/1 S-Video. I'd post a pic but I'm not able to post attachments/pictures (hint hint APEX...;) )

Exactly. No component (Y, Cb/Pb, Cr/Pr, matched 75ohm connectors).

Sorry, I thought that RCA vid/audio WAS component input. My bad. I guess I learned something though, so all is not in vain. Just trying to help...
