Making subwoofer

Does anybody know how to make subwoofer???? I heard it is easy and cheap to do.

building an actual subwoofer. not a cabinet.

A subwoofer is made up of several parts. Here are the basics:

Driver (the actual speaker, usually in 8" to 18" in size)
Cabinet (the box, bracing, feet, etc)
Connectors
Crossover (not all have them)
Amp (not all are integrated onto the sub)

You're talking about the cabinet, correct? Because you cannot make a driver, amp, or crossover.

Well, ok. You can make them, but people rarely do because it's seldom worthwhile. ;)

I doubt that those three components cost very much to buy, anyway. Can't you buy most of those electronics from Radio Shack?

hee hee hee thanks =) ok so i guess i am making a cabitnet cause idont have the skills to make my own driver and amp and crossover.

so, can you put a subwoofer together - like you would put a computer together?
buy the parts, stick them together - and bam?

would it be cheaper? or would it just be better?

I'd like a subwoofer - but don't want to pay over 150 for it...

I know they sell cones (usually for cars, right?).... could u use one of those for your home?

I never paid much attention to the 4 ohm and 8 ohm thing. Could someone elaborate on this? It must be more important than I realize.
...and how do you tell which ohm rating you have in your component(s)?

The example you used.. If you used a 4 Ohm speaker when it should have been 8, is it possible to also damage the speaker?

So... the lower the number in ohms of your speakers, the higher the possiblity of damaging the other components in your system. Gotta remember that. Thanks!
