I am building a computer for someone and they want cheap performace. I don't like purchasing AMD, but it is cheap performace and after I give it to them I won't have to worry about it.

So far this is what I got for 'em.

MB ASUS NFORCE A7N266-VM Retail (Qty=1,Price=89.00)
CPU FAN|DP5-6I31C-A1 CM RTL (Qty=1,Price=7.00)
CASE EVERCASE|P4ATXMD NPS E4252B00A (Qty=1,Price=24.00)
CPU AMD|1600+/266 ATHLON 1.40G XP % (Qty=1,Price=66.00)

Ordered from newegg.

I went with the nForce because everything is there. How does the XP 1600+ Geforce 2 pair up? I sold my Geforce 2 MX ajust a few months ago and the games it did play were pretty damn good.

I am thinking about 256 for the ram.

That should be fine, but--especially if you are building this comp for a friend--I would go with a retail processor and use the stock HS/fan.

Thanks for the input.

What kind of games will he be borderline playing? What will he definatly not be able to? As will would be able to?

How does this fan compare to the reference? Only curious because I already ordered it.

I was about to build one box for my friend too but I found the good deal yesterday @ Dell SB (Dimension 4500 1.8Ghz for $524 after MIR). I rather buy a cheap built computer than build one 'cauze your friend will bother you when technial problems arise!
