Ok, let's see if I can help. To my knowledge, there are three Microsoft mice with the intellieye technology - the standard one, the Optical, and the Explorer.

The standard one looks like a regular 2-button mouse with a scroll wheel while the Optical and Explorer have 2 additional buttons for a total of 5.

The explorer is slightly larger than the optical and is for righties only. Basically, your purchase will boil down to design preference, because other than the shape and a couple buttons, they're all the same mouse.

I say go for the Explorer, you won't regret it.

the Explorer is also good for showing off...

Anyone know of any good deals on the Intellimouse? I tried the Staples offer, but they're out. I guess I woke up too late this morning. Thanks!

Thanks again--Is $41 a good price for this? It seems pretty average. It should have been $35, but they hit me with shipping.

It's mediocre. I mean, I got mine for something like 11 bucks or something, but I also had to wait an eon for it. I'd say they're worth $25? They're cool and all, I'm not totally sure they're that huge an upgrade from a decent mouse w/ balls.

Vector: If you can slug some GC's onto that, it'd make it better. Amazon ones are the easiest to come by, as far as I can tell.

I've got $150 in gc from a collegehire survey a couple'a months ago, so I'm set there. Could I do that referral thing and get two more $5 ones? I know they can't be stacked with other referral gc's, but what about with normal gc's?

And AJ spelled everything correctly, just left the ' out of you're.

I thought the girl thing was pretty funny: IT WORKS ON SO MANY LEVELS!! First of all, you're a girl! On a deeper level...YOU'RE A GIRL! Oh man, that guy is a comic genius. No, but the intellieye I have is not worth more than $20. The other ones, I can't say, what the hell are the extra two buttons used for? Are they supported? I must say, they look pretty cool, and if there's anything I care about, it's how I look. That's definitely worth an extra $15. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/wink.gif

The mouse looks phat, and you can program 'em for just about ANY windows function... one of mine is "back" for the web browser, and the other is "show desktop", cause I always have tons of windows open...

Plus the chrome and red look is cool...

Hello? Does anyone still read the front deals page? They have an Optical model there for $25 from Staples, meaning you'll get it tomorrow, but at full price charged to your CC http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif
It's worth a try, still.

Unfortunately... those of us who have the kick ass Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer, will be... outdated. (Outdated? Already? NO WAY! heheh) Microsoft has an update to it's Optical IntelliEye technology that makes it 33% faster. (Meaning it takes a picture of the surface 2000 times/second instead of 1500. And I thought my Intellimouse Explorer would be king of the mice for a while.

Just MTCW here...The two most popular feature "upgrades" for premium mice have been optical technology and cordless connectivity. Logitech recently intro'd their optical mouse. Just read the MS press release linked above and they outlined their optical lineup for the coming holiday season. Here's my question: Why, why, why have neither of these companies gotten their s**t together yet to release a CORDLESS OPTICAL mouse? Imean, if you're gonna go premium, then go premium! Sheesh, you don't suppose that, just maybe, they're gonna wait until there's serious market penetration for one or both of these technologies and, only then, release a "married" product so that everyone who already popped for a premium mouse will have to replace it again with the next step up? They wouldn't do that would they?

BTW, I've got the Explorer and it's great! But I just got back from visiting my bro in London...he has a Logitech cordless on his machine there and it was sooo comfortable to use for the week. If either MS or Logitech did a combo product I'd snatch it in a minute!

Biggy: It's probably because the optical mice take a 1500 pic/sec resolution that would be murder to transmit by radio. I am not even remotely close to being technically sound, but my guess is that the cordless media that they use are not up to transmitting the volume of information required. Plus, that light would drain the batteries with the quickness.

has anyone had problems with their computer not working well with the intellieye explorer mouse?

pennypinch
07-14-2000, 11:51 AM
Yeah, when I plugged it into my USB port, the setup program kept crashing. When it's in the serial port, it works fine. No idea what the hell is wrong with it.

My Intellimouse Explorer works great on USB and PS/2. It's on USB right now.

I think cordless sucks. Like previously stated, it'd be murder to transmit 1500 pictures/second wireless. (Unless it's developed by QUALCOMM.)

If you think 1500/second is hard, what about the next generation IntelliEye Optical technology with 2000 pics/second.

I'm pretty sure the problem is specific to my computer. It seems to be a never ending battle between me and the computer god inside the machine.
