I was trying to open this zipped archive which is approx 700mb large. When i run the executable i get this DOS window that pops up and says: "Not enough free memory to run." i have 512mb ddr and 1gb of virtual memory... anyone have any thoughts?

Might be talking about drive space - do you have enough to uncompress it?

i've got an 80 gig ibm deskstar with 50 gigs free... so i think there's enough space.. how much would it need? my actual windows xp system drive has 3gigs free.

If you're unzipping it to your C:\ drive, try it on the 50GB partition instead, just in case.

What kind of program is this that you're trying to run? Is it
a DOS app or program? It would almost sound like it if the error is popping up in a DOS window, rather than a standard error message.
I remember the old days when running DOS apps you not only had to have enough total memory available to run, but you also had to have enough conventional memory (the first 640K) free to run the program.
I recall trying to get games to run that required 600K of the first 640K free, so I had to rearrange drivers, load what I could into high memory, and tweak memory managers to make sure I had enough to run the game...
