I bought both the VTech 900 MHz w/answering machine and the Northwestern Bell 2.4 GHz cordless phones. Both of these phones were mentioned many times about 6 weeks ago on this forum.

Bottom line: VTech sucks compared to the Northwestern Bell. Yeah, the VTech was like almost free, but I never use it.

I would wait until there's a deal on a 2.4 MHz cordless rather than get a bad 900 MHz.

What is the quality of the V-Tech phones? Im looking at #391766 (w/answering maching)at Staples.

25 off 50 and $20 rebate makes it dirt cheap. But I dont want it if it isn't good quality. (#389583 w/speakerphone) also has rebate)

Thanks in advance!

I got one of those phones and it's fine. Not the best quality in the world,,but for $5 after rebate....I'm happy.

The rebate says it applies to purchases at "Staples Stores only" would that include online purchases as well?

I have had this phone for approx. 3 months and I have had no problem at all. I got it from ONVIA.com when they had it for ten bucks.IT's definitely not junk. Go for it!

Hi
The bottom line is that you will probably have to backorder it (like I did), no matter what the website says about availability. Read on for details of my experience.

You might want to call the 800# before placing your order. I was trying to do this 10 days ago online, and I was getting the message that it was out of stock- couldn't add it to my cart. Then earlier this week, it looked like it was back in stock and I placed my order. The email confirm said delivery in 2 weeks (when I placed the order it showed 1 day)!!
The CSRs gave me BS answers for delivery dates till yesterday. I finally found out it is out of stock and I can put in a backorder request, which I did. Yesterday, again it showed it out of stock. Today it looked like it was in stock again. I called the 800 # but it's not really in stock. I have no idea when it will come.
I used ecount and have exactly $29 in there for this order. The rebate purchase period ends 8-31. If it's not shipped by 8-20 or so, I will pull the money from that account so the order rejects.
Good luck, and if you are able to find it, please let me know, so I can force the issue on my backorder.

Bought the V-Tech speakerphone model at the Onvia $10 sale and the unit is well-built with speakerphone capability in either the handset or base unit. It is physically well constructed and comfortable to hold. The dialing buttons do not lite up. The voice quality is slightly "remote" sounding such that many people can tell you are on a remote phone.

In rare cases, the phone is susceptible to interference if it is broadcast in the same frequency range. Because it doesn't digitally code its signal to the base unit, if the interference is strong enough, it can pseudo-"pulse dial" a semi-random number for you. I have that problem in my household due to all the wireless units sharing the same no-license 900Mhz band (such as my wireless modem).
