Woman sues Delta, says she was humiliated over sex toy

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — A woman who says she was pulled off an airplane and asked to take a sex toy out of her luggage after it started vibrating is suing Delta Airlines, saying she was publicly humiliated.

Renee Koutsouradis, 36, said she was with her husband awaiting takeoff from Dallas in February when her name was called over the loudspeaker.

She said she was met by a Delta security agent who told her something was vibrating in one of her bags. She said she explained it was an adult toy that she and her husband had just bought on a trip to Las Vegas.

She said the agent took her to the bag on the tarmac and made her remove the toy and hold it up, according to the lawsuit filed Wednesday. Some passengers on the plane saw everything, and three male Delta employees "began laughing hysterically" and made "obnoxious and sexually harassing comments."

Koutsouradis was allowed to repack and return to her seat.

A spokeswoman for Delta would not comment on the specifics of the lawsuit.

"We have an obligation to protect the safety and security of passengers," said spokeswoman Katie Connell. "If there's anything questionable about a bag, we have a responsibility to investigate."

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, accusing Delta of negligence, intentional infliction of distress and gender discrimination.

Koutsouradis' lawyer, Brad Tobin, said Delta agents should have escorted her to a private area.

"She was pretty horrified by the treatment," he said. "She never contended that Delta doesn't have the right to investigate a security issue. It was their total lack of professionalism."

I feel sorry for her and want to scream dumass at the same time. I would think something like that might set off a metal detector or something. Should've left it at home or go to a grocery store. :shake:

LOL, thats awesome. I think the airline had the right to do what they did. who cares if people saw her vibrator. people saw her buy it. she apparently wasnt embarassed when she bought it our put the batteries in it, or possibly used it.

people are too damn greedy.

Well I think they could have been more discrete about it. It's an embarassment that could have been minimalized. It's like when they think you carrying something in your pants or your butt...don't they take you to a room and ask you to like disrobe or something privately? I haven't been on a plane since last year in September so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

What they could've done was evacuase the plane, call in one of those remote robots and blow the hell out of it (no pun...well..some pun intended) since it was vibrating. Could have been a bomb tied to a clock...who the hell knows. :P

Bags that are checked at the airport do not generally go through metal detectors or x-ray machines, at least to my knowledge. Your carry-ons do, but not checked bags.

Modern bombs are known to vibrate, so when a vibration is detected, they are very concerned about the threat. I don't know why she didn't just take the thing with her in her carry-on bag. I'm sure they see that kind of thing come through all the time... plus she would have had something to keep her occupied during the flight! :P

Anyway, why in the hell did she keep the batteries in?? (And why would it set off the metal detector?? Most that I have ever seen, umm, heard about, have not been metal...) ;)

because people are stupid and sue happy. she probably planted just so they could find it and she could sue them. i would be a very unhappy person if a suitcase was vibrating and no one checked it. what a dumb woman.

Well, if you don't want to be embarassed... Don't do anything stupid!!!
Delta should counter sue her. For the time lost, aircraft, crew, ground personel, the hit to their "on time" statistics... Now if they had insisted that she prove it was a vibrator by demonstrating it's use... then she would have a case.

lol yeah thats right but they didnt they just asked her to turn it off (and i guess take the batteries out.) it must of been a pretty big vibrator for them to feel it through the suitcase...lol
