stopped at a gas station today to get a drink on my lunch break. they had a new pepsi product called pepsi blue. I grabbed a bottle.
its "berry cola fusion"
its a clear blue color. kinda like motley brew from motley crue(it was designed to turn your tongue blue as well as your crap. I tested it and it worked. tasted like bad pickles though)
it tastes alright, kinda like a sugary candy. I dont think this one will last.

Since I'm bored at work...here's the press release:
http://www.drpepper.com/dp/html/index.html
Unique Flavor Will Be First Addition to Trademark in 117-Year History
PLANO, TEXAS, May 10, 2002 - When it is introduced to the American public in mid-July, Red Fusion will become the first new flavor addition to the Dr Pepper line-up in its 117-year history. Sporting an alluring red color and use of a variety of fruit flavors, including the basic flavor profile of Dr Pepper, the new beverage will initially be available in 12-packs of 12-ounce aluminum cans, 2-liter plastic bottles and 20-ounce single-serve plastic bottles sold as a cold drink in vending machines, as well as in coolers found in convenience, grocery, drug and mass merchandise retail stores. Additional packaging will be available about four weeks after the brand's rollout. All packages will incorporate the familiar Dr Pepper logo to signify Red Fusion's heritage. A fountain version of Red Fusion will also be available in mid-July.
"Consumers are telling us they want new, unique, refreshing and smooth-to-the-palate carbonated soft drink products in a quest to satisfy their thirst," stated Jack Kilduff, Dr Pepper president and chief operating officer. "It is our intent to meet those needs. Our retail trade customers and bottlers have also expressed a desire for new products and both our Bottler Association and Bottler Marketing Committee have provided us with invaluable feedback, counsel and unwavering support during Red Fusion's developmental phase."
"There is no doubt that Red Fusion is the biggest news for Dr Pepper since the brand was created in Waco, Texas, in 1885, and I am delighted to be part of this historic line extension launch," declared Ed Frazer, the Dr Pepper bottler in Reno, Nev., and president of the brand's Bottler Association. "Red Fusion has a great and unique flavor, as well as being smooth and refreshing. My biggest fear is that I won't be able to produce Red Fusion fast enough to keep it on the shelves. The Dr Pepper Bottler Association is fully supportive of this initiative."
Consumer research on Red Fusion began in September 2001, and continued through the first quarter of 2002. "While we looked at several different flavor profiles, Red Fusion consistently ranked at the top with a diverse audience of consumers, across age groups ranging from teens to more mature adults, in cities across the U.S.," explained Cindi Clark, Dr Pepper senior vice president-marketing. "We made absolutely certain the product met consumers' expectations and desires, then we took a look at more than 300 potential names. We didn't want to leave anything to chance, so we conducted additional and extensive consumer research on the name as well as the packaging artwork."
Pointing out the fact that virtually all 2001 growth in the carbonated soft drink category came from either new product introductions or diet brands, company executives believe innovative beverages such as Red Fusion will continue to reinvigorate growth momentum. "A unique, original, mysterious, intriguing, energetic, delicious and smooth new soft drink brand like Dr Pepper's Red Fusion will appeal to bottlers, retailers and consumers, and it will tell the world that we continue to believe that there are ample opportunities to grow volume in the carbonated soft drink category," stated Kilduff.
In addition to marketing support that includes point-of-sale (POS) materials, merchandising, cold drink programs and sampling, Red Fusion will be supported by television, radio and outdoor advertising under development by the company's agency, Young & Rubicam New York. "We want to emphasize Red Fusion's unique personality and originality in its advertising, which could begin airing as early as September," said John Clarke, Dr Pepper/Seven Up chief advertising officer. "This is not just any new carbonated soft drink, it's one that has to live up to the bold heritage, consumer trust and satisfaction and brand equity that has evolved with Dr Pepper for more than a century."
Red Fusion is part of the extensive soft drink portfolio of Plano, Texas-based Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Inc., which is the largest division of London-based beverage and confectionery firm Cadbury Schweppes plc (NYSE: CSG). Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Inc. is the largest non-cola enterprise in North America, with about 16 percent of the U.S. carbonated soft drink market. In addition to Red Fusion, the company's other leading brands include Dr Pepper, 7 UP, A&W Root Beer, Sunkist, Canada Dry, Hawaiian Punch, Schweppes and Squirt, as well as the RC Cola and Slush Puppie brands. For more information about Dr Pepper/Seven Up and its brands, visit www.dpsu.com.
This has also been done with ketchup. All these funky colors stuff is being done to shake things up and get more sales by appealing to the kiddies. Can't say any of it is impressive.

First: What is Pepsi Crystal?
Second: I do these taste test things for Pepsi and get paid for em, and a while back I did an online survey for them about Pepsi Blú (as they called it then) and I was "sworn to secrecy". Lol
