Film Slides and negative scanner by Acer (http://www.benq.com/imaging/scanner_2740s.html) now known as "Benq"
Check out the Sample Scans (http://www.photoscientia.co.uk/Review.htm#samplescans) of this near-pro model.

It's literally as nice as a Nikon Coolscan IV and much nicer, IMPO than any Canoscan (Craposcan) in that price range.

The only thing that can match my SLR in quality right now has to be a Digital SLR that can somehow do 11megapixels. And, since those don't exist yet, I have to do what photographers do

I don't see it out yet. The only one i see is a 6.1mp CCD with some s/w capability to display at 12.1mp.
I want a true 11+mp CCD or CMOS in an SLR that is affordable :P (ideal would be 2000 dollars or so for the body)
At the rate these things are evolving, I probably just have to wait like 2 years at most.

both pics seem to be overexposed and the composition on the second pic is very shakey + bottom right corner of the pic, my guess is either your scanner did that or there is distortion on your lens, which i really doubt since you were shooting at 28mm so i'd say it was your scanner

Yah...it was the scanner
THe pictures developed fine. I just ordered the home scanner today so I can go take care of it myself later. The scans and pictures were developed at ritz camera (explains the overexposure and such). The negatives were fine actually.

i've never been to cali (about to remedy that, but anyway) so i don't know how cold the water is out there, but the great lakes surrounding michigan -- that is cold water.
they freeze partially over in the winter, so even by august, they are still freaking cold. i don't know if it's colder than the pacific, but it's cold.
anyway, i think amost anywhere is better than living in mt. pleasant where ribitch is at :P

I still prefer digital to film. True the resolution is WAY less than film, but its much easier to work with AND you get so much more info out of digital. Try this, find a picture that has a lot of dark portions taken on a digital camera and adjust the levels, you can get some amazing results.

Leica has a digital camera (http://www.leica-camera.com/digitalekameras/digilux1/index_e.html) that looks pretty nice. (Well, not glitzy looking, but great capabilities, and gotta love the Vario-Summicron lens.)

I'll be interested to see how this one works out for them. The last digicam that Leica released was a big 'ol POS (as compared to normal Leica quality).

It looks like it's nothing to write home about already. The lens specs don't look impressive already. It's pretty good for a P&S, not good enough for an SLR

My parent's SD place is about 15 miles from the beach, and my apartment in LA is only about 5 minutes from the beach...but I still haven't gone in over a year. Even when I stay at my parent's beach house (about 100 feet from the water), I usually bring a laptop with me but don't even step out on to the sand. I guess that I'm just too much of a "21st century digital boy".
Then again...I am the guy who is currently sitting in an internet cafe...in Amsterdam. So I'm not sure that I'm the best person to be talking about life outside of the internet. I'm really just killing time before my flight tomorrow and trying to avoid thinking about the girl waiting for me in LA... Let's just say that the second half of that sentence isn't working as well as I would've hoped. I've already sent her two e-mails in the hour I've been sitting here...and I spent about 5 hours talking to her on AIM yesterday.
