...I installed and upped the res to 1024x768...and the text is really hard for me to read, even just 16" from my 19" monitor. Is there a way to increase the font size without running at 800x600?

You should see the text size at 1600x1200. I almost went blind. Yeah, I haven't seen an option to up the text font, so I had to play at a lower res also.
