Last night I ordered the 2-DVD Wide Screen version of the Lord of The Rings at BestBuy.com. It was only $19.99 with free shipping and $10 coupon for a future purchase. However this morning they sent me a confirmation that stated the following:
Shipped Items:
Item Description Type Qty Web Price Total Status
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lord Of Rings: Fellowship Of R DVD 1 $15.99 $15.99 Not yet shipped
Item Subtotal: $15.99
Tax: $1.65
Shipping & Handling: $0.00
------------------------------
Order Total: $17.64
Did they drop their price even lower? Could be a very sweet deal if I get that price, free shipping and the $10 coupon!!! I hope this comes through!

I just searched the site and found this... VERY COOL!
Our pre-order price guarantee
Pre-order any title at BestBuy.com, and if the Best Buy price — online or in-store — has dropped by the release date, you'll automatically be charged the lower price.

They did the same thing for the Oceans 11 pre-order dropping the price a week before release. If you look at the ad scans in mysterX's post for Best Buy next week, you will see that the sale price is the same there. Very nice deal if you don't mind getting the DVD set without ALL of the extras :)

or we can get the barebone movie for $16 + change, and get a $10 digital coupon...then when the 5 disk comes out, there is a 10 rebate if you bought the first one...that will be $16 -10 digital coupon -10 rebate= :deal:

if only we were that lucky. The 5-disk shows as $29.99 I believe, last time I checked, on their website. But good deal nonetheless. :) which will drop the final price to around $10 + tax (which is on the $30), which will actually bring the final cost to approximately $12.50 (in the SF Bay Area at least). And god forbid they start charging shipping again.

Where's the info on the $10 rebate for the 5-disc set? Also, which set is this? I only see the 4-disc special extended version at Best Buy.
That would be a good deal for the special extended set, though, and you can use the 2-disc regular edition DVD as a gift :D

actually the 5 disk is 49.99 at amazon
i was refering to if you gonna get the 5 disk anyways, you are getting the 2 disk one for bascially free
also if you only want to get the 4 disk one, you get a 5 dollar rebate for buying the 2 disk, and the 2 disk is still bascially free(actually about 1.50)
you can buy the disks anywhere, the rebates are in the dvds
at dvdtalk, they have a thread for bestbuys ad next week, that has lotr at 15.99
info at fatwallet about the rebate

I have been going around and around with Best Buy and these deals on DVD's. So far I have gotten Oceans 11, Black Hawk Down, and now LOTR. Because of their price drops and my digital coupons form the other DVD's, LOTR only cost me about $7.09 shipped. Also, I paid full price for Ocean's 11, but got Black Hawk Down for about $11.00 shipped. Not too bad if they keep coming out with more coupons.

You can get this movie and 10 rentals at Blockbuster Video for $24.99 on pre-order until Monday. They are offering 1 video rental/week for 10 consecutive weeks for $24.99 which is a $37.99 to $39.99 value depending on where you live. They throw in a free copy of Lord of the Rings on whichever format you want.
Widescreen has the black bars. Pan-Scan is the "Formatted to fit your TV version". Usually I hate the black bars, but LOTR has such cool scenery that I opted for the widescreen version so I could see everything. In Pan-Scan they have to cut off part of the picture to make it fit your TV screen.
I was going to buy LOTR anyway, so getting it along with 10 rentals for $24.99 is a sweet deal for me!

After I put the LOTR widescreen DVD in my cart and then log-in, I get a surprising list of charges:
Product Total: 15.99
Order Charge: $1.99
Shipping Charge $0.99
SubTotal: $18.97
Anyone know why free shipping costs 99 cents, or what the heck an "order charge" is?

If I order 2 of the two-disc wide screens will I get both $10 rebates?
BTW when will this be in stores?
-jel:halo:
ps: is there any coupons going for bb right now that might work with the order?

New VHS/DVD movies are _always_ released on Tuesdays. You'll notice new movies appear in rentals on Tuesdays for this reason too, unless someone breaks the street date.
Also, please be aware that the 4-disc version coming out in November is the extended version. This means the parts that were initially removed from the theater release have been put back in, and the 4-disc set does NOT contain the theater release version.
