VALENCIA -- A Canyon Country man on his way to buy a new car to replace the one stolen the night before was shocked Tuesday when he noticed his 1991 Toyota Camry traveling in front of him.

Angered at the brazen thieves, Timothy Rawson started following his car, which bore a distinctive college sticker, filled with strangers. He then called the Sheriff's Department on his cell phone.

Realizing that they were being followed, the thieves pulled over at an apartment complex at McBean Parkway and Del Monte, jumped out of the vehicle and fled. They were arrested a short time later.

"It was his lucky day," said Deputy Roy Henstrand, who detained five of the suspects. "You couldn't ask for better luck in the world."

Instead of heading to the car dealerships, Rawson drove his car home while the suspects were given a ride to the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station.

A 16-year-old Canyon Country boy, and Shamika Gable, 19, of Santa Clarita, were arrested. The names of the other suspects were not available. They are all being held at the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner's consent.

Officials said the Camry was reported stolen at 10:30 p.m. Monday from the 18600 block of Soledad Canyon Road and was believed to have been taken between 8 and 10 p.m.

"Toyota Camrys are a very popular stolen vehicle," Henstrand said. "He was lucky he got his car back."

well, about the getting the car the new car the next day....

here is an idea of the prices of houses in that area....then you can see why the man went to go buy a new car the next day....

Valencia (http://www.valencia.com/new_homes/index.asp)

the other parts of Santa Clarita are pretty much in the same price range.... but oh my god if you can afford to live in Stevensons Ranch then you must be something else.... I couldn't really find anything about Stevensons Ranch but I did find this quote on a website "Most people think you need $10,000 to $20,000 to buy a home, but it's just not true!

You can buy homes in Stevenson Ranch up to $750,000 with a Low Down payment " .....

so you can see what type of people are in that valley....oh and the parents of school age children in stevensons ranch tried to get their OWN school district so their kids would be part of a " different " school district then anyone else... :puke:
