I'm actually going there for the 1st time in a few weeks to visit a buddy as well. Have no idea what to expect.

Hmm... I rented a house by the shore on Deer Island near Bar Harbor with some friends 2 years back. Most of the time, we just pigged around the house and kayaked in our 'backyard'... it led to the Atlantic and there's a lot of islands there. Rent a kayak and have some fun. Some of the islands are pretty small and don't really have much wildlife, so you can set up camp there one night too if you want and watch the stars (it's really, really tranquil there). Another fun thing you can try is hiking. There's plenty of parks nearby and lots of forests in the area. Lobster's pretty fresh and cheap there too, as you can imagine. And oh yeah...if all else fails, drive through the area doing 90... there's A LOT of hills and bumpy roads. :D
