Japan launched a compulsory ID system yesterday aimed at bringing government into the electronic age in the face of stiff protests calling it a violation of privacy and a temptation to hackers.

"A group of academics and activists presented the Home Affairs Ministry with a petition demanding the government halt the program, which links municipal computer systems and gives each Japanese citizen an 11-digit identification number." We got that already, its called a Social Security number.

Yeah, it's easier for them to scan the number if it's tatoo'd on your forehead. ;)

Great, now when they want to implement it in the US they will have a mature technology t oslip in on us, instead of something that will have bugs and be noticed... :(

The sole purpose of doing this in Japan is to make it easier for everyone there to have their own personal giant transforming battle mech.
