Okay, well apparently the 50pack of CD's (80min, 700meg Kingstons) has dropped *ANOTHER* 2 dollars. This deal just keeps getting better. I bought one pack at $16.95, they arrived the next day, and they worked perfectly so far. I've burned about 5 or 6 of them already.
Again it's at <a href="http://www.outpost.com">www.outpost.com</a> and the item # is 84219
Free Overnight shipping, and remember they are 80min cd's....This is under $0.30 a cd.
ha!
Oh well....enjoy! http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif

What color are the CDs? Like:
<UL TYPE=SQUARE>
<LI>blue-silver
<LI>gold-gold
</UL>
i've heard that blue silver is the best, no?

I believe the kingstons are silver-blue, not sure though. Silver-blue's are average at best. There have been plenty of questions and discussions on this but here is a brief version anyhow. Order of best to worst: Platinum (look like pressed cd's), gold-gold, silver-silver, gold-blue, silver-blue, silver-green. And for those of you with the psx disc the black ones are kind of a gray area as of yet, guess not enough test on them but I'm sure the quality is near silver-silver's.

Yeah they are blue/silver. Been using pretty much all blue/silvers for quite a while now and haven't had a real problem yet. So as far as the "quality" goes, it can't be all that apparent from regular use. They work fine for holding my mp3s, my movies, and my norp. So all is well. http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/smile.gif hahahah.

Really? What kind do you need for the dreamcast stuff? I might have to be doing some of those for my friend. I never read anything about them not working off of blues though....

I ordered 2 50 packs and each pack has cds marked with either 12X or 8x and the 12x or gold/greenish and the 8x are blue. Can anybody confirm that they've got different colors/speed-ratings in the same spool?

i've only tried a blue 80 min disc for dc once.. (code veronica disc 1).. it didnt work.. and then i did the EXACT same thing w/ a silver/silver 80 min disc.. and it worked perfectly...

I haven't flipped through my spindle, but I guess I will when I get home. All the ones I've pulled off so far were 8x blues though.

Tachi, I'll do some reasearch and find out what the deal is. Couple of my friends are big into that stuff. I'm sure one of them would know.

Every brand I've used so far works on my Dreamcast.... Compusa(8x), Imation(4x), Kingston(8x)[the one listed in this thread], PNY(8x), Sony(6x), Cendyne(12x)
I'm thinking it has more to do with your burner rather than the media(though I wouldn't discount the media factor if you have a cheaper burner). I use a scsi Imation(Plextor) 8/20...

Playdoh, do you do 'em all at 8x write and they work fine? I remember some stuff with the early playstations where you had to do writes at 2x or else they would be very jittery and buggy. I'm assuming Sega used a higher quality CD reading mechanism than the original Playstations used.

I burn at 4x to be on the safe side but since I've done burns at 8x successfully with images other than the dreamcast, it would lead me to assume that if I burnt dc stuff at 8x, I wouldn't have a problem. The extra 10 mins ain't gonna kill me anyway....

btw, I've done direct cd to cd psx copies at 4x with no problems. Again, I attribute it more to the burner rather than the media.

its more a burner question i think. my friend cant get his hp to burn dreamcast games with blue cds but he can do it with his plextor -also mabe its the program ??????dought its the cds but you never know http://www.gotapex.com/ubb/frown.gif( <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by playdoh:

hmm.. its interesting you mentioned that.. as i've never thot about trying to burn it at different speed... i usually just burn everything at 8x w/ my yamaha burner.. and everything would always work.. i guess i'll try at a slower speed w/ the blue discs and see...

Let's keep it simple...use only these programs...
1) Nero for dc (4x)
2) CDRWin for psx (2X)
There should never be any problems.

hi all,
if ur cd player is fairly new it should be able to play 80 min cds...to kno for sure play a store bought music cd that is 80 min..
i use all types of colors of CDRs for dreamcast games, they all work perfectly...i guess color is not the BIG issue here...more important is who makes them..the light blues i've been using are Ritek
in turns of speed, i think recording speed doesn't really matter unless you are recording on-the-fly (CD to CD)...if you record from harddrive to cdr, there should be no reason why you have to slow down...but slowing down while creating the CD image into the hard drive will be better, especially for audio
best quality among all colors, Gold on gold!!
take it from somebody who's been selling this stuff ever since dey were 13 bucks each...
