I swear, craigslist is working miracles for me. It's already gotten me $190 to play videogames and now it's gotten me a regular paying job.
http://www.craigslist.org/sfo/etc/5125123.html
So I was talking with the guy over the phone, and this is how it basically works. I drive down to San Jose every Saturday to work for about 3-4 hours dressing up in various costumes (spiderman, batman, pikachu, etc) and performing a pre-scripted dance at kids' parties. Then they pay me at the end of each day. The wages are non-taxed, so it's just straight $35/hr. And they pay for the time I spend driving between gigs. Easy shizzle. :D
$50 bonus for returning equipment (costume, tape player) after every 10 consecutive gigs.
$50 bonus for arriving on-time to every 10 consecutive gigs.
$35/hr starting (+tips)

Not too shabby. When I was in high school I had a paper route for about $20 per week and bussed tables for $2/hr. In spite of the increase in earnings potential, I still wouldn't want to switch places with the yutes of today.

Your wages are still taxable... even if your employer doesn't take them out. (I think there is a $400 threshold... or something like that before you gotta pay taxes. )
Oh did I say $35/hr? I meant I volunteer. :shifty:

Uh...tell me guys, is this bad?
Like an hour ago, "Jeff" calls me again and tells me that he won't be able meet up with me tomorrow like we'd planned earlier. He said that his schedule was too "hectic." Then he told me that he'd call me back next week and try to schedule another time. This phone call came after one I had with him in the morning. In that one, he asked me if I had any previous working experience. I told him about the Sony game testing thing and being the webmaster for passwird.com. After I told him that, there was a hella long silence (we're talking 15 seconds). So I broke it by saying, "Is that it?" Then he said something like, "Yeah, I was just wondering because this is really important and I'm sure you're responsible and all, but the past few people who've done this have screwed up *BLA BLA BLA BLA*"
Is this guy giving me the phatty shaft? :(

Nah, he was talking about how the previous people arrived late to gigs after leaving a previous one. Apparently, they had problems reading maps.

Yah, that could be bad news... I've been assed out of a job because of a previous worker's attitude and work ethic. Of course, they ended up hiring him back instead of me. How that works I still don't know, but it happens. :(

well wird, i hope it works out for you, because that's hella good money to dance around in some super-hero outfit.
if the guy tries to say you're not responsible enough, pull out some bs about how as a webmaster running a deals site, you have to be responsive to customer complaints, work quickly to post the lastest deals, etc. also, that you've organized things like your "put passwird.com in cool places" contest.
if you talk it up, you should be able to convince him that you are an experienced small-businessman who has partnered with leading companies like microsoft and amazon to create value for your customers, a profitable website for yourself, and increased sales for your vendors.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Whitak, are you a marketer or something? :) If he doesn't call me back by wednesday of next week, I'll call him and try to defend myself using a toned-down version of the stuff you mentioned. :P
