tracy chapman...any fans?

time for my yearly blues kick, and tracy chapman is always near the top of my list. she's not a ripping guitarist, but she has a great voice and she's one of the best lyricists ever imho (which happens to be right in this case :P ).

anyhow...any tracy fans at g|a?

Anyways...she has some kickn songs. The one I really like the most is give me one reason! I learned how to play that on guitar, and it just has a great ring to it!

I have never been a fan of hers, but she was playing at a show that I went to in NYC with 9 other acts. I honestly didn't think I was going to care for her and my friend and I joked how we would take a nap through her set. As it turned out, she was a VERY talented performer! I still wouldn't call myself a fan, but it changed my opinion of her greatly.

That however was quite a few years ago and my tastes in music have changed significantly since then. I'm big into the modern folk/folk rock scene. I should give her another chance. Any suggestions on where to start?

one thing that boosted her rating with me is when she started playing with people like bb king and eric clapton. i mean, you can't just be some joker and play with them! before that, i loved her and stuff, but it was good that she made that progress and stuff. i've always thought she could write well and sing n stuff...but with them is just too cool :D

some others i dig by her are:

gimme one reason (like cheesypuff pointed out...and it's a quick change blues prog if anyone's interested ;) )

well, let's just say that if you like those, you'd like a lot more of her stuff. her style is pretty consistent, but not repetitious. her whole first album is a must have, imho ;)
