if you hit the number 666 on something do you try and quick get it to 667? -- like evil will happen if you don't

i don't really care if 666 just comes up for some reason...like in a post count or whatever.

but if somebody willfully uses 666 as their sign or u know...just gets infatuated with that number, that person can worry me, simply because it's more than just a number at that point.

Dunno... but I always seem to get three-of-a-kind 6's when playing poker. :hmm:

What's wrong with the number 666... it is a perfectly good number. So long as it isn't tatooed anywhere on your head or right hand anyway...

Here's something to cosider... the following are all represetations of the number 6 in ancient languages (or as close as the character set will allow)
S
A
VI

So consider that when they talk about imbeding chips in your right hand that you can use for a credit card. :(

i'm not quite sure i like the connotation of "superstition" really. here's the definition:

Main Entry: suˇperˇstiˇtion
Pronunciation: "sü-p&r-'sti-sh&n
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English supersticion, from Middle French, from Latin superstition-, superstitio, from superstit-, superstes standing over (as witness or survivor), from super- + stare to stand -- more at STAND
Date: 13th century
1 a : a belief or practice resulting from ignorance, fear of the unknown, trust in magic or chance, or a false conception of causation b : an irrational abject attitude of mind toward the supernatural, nature, or God resulting from superstition
2 : a notion maintained despite evidence to the contrary as you can see, it's not exactly a positive thing. given that one that is "superstitious" just blindly thinks things despite evidence of otherwise, then i'll have to say no. then again, the very definition itself implies a lot isn't true when there is supporting evidence to the contrary.

whether or not it's "just a number" doesnt sit well with me. i mean, sure, it's just a number. but then each of us is just a person, all our belongings are just things, all our accomplishments are just acts, etc. it really trivializes the whole situation.

there are things that have not yet been explained by science. i'm not saying they never will be, but it is just plain arrogance that people stereotype based on belief. am i silly for thinking tomorrow will happen? after all, i don't have anything to back up such a claim. and we're all still debating how life began "in the beginning," if life exists, etc. so why such arrogance just based on supporting tangible evidence?

if someone hands me a coin and they say that if i rub it, it will bring me luck...and then "prove" it by rubbing it and hitting the jackpot at the slots...and then i do the same and i hit it, too...then i doubt i would really care if anyone wants to call it "coincidence." coincidence or not, i'll just rub the damned coin.

anyhow, there are things that do happen and do correlate. the number itself isn't "bad" and wasn't intended to be. depending on what you're told, it's in some way tied to a single being, and then there are other implications from that (belief in that being, allegiance, etc). so no, the number itself isn't bad.

I knew there was a reason I didn't do:

chmod -r 666 *.*

:P

Seriously though, if I got a receipt for $6.66 at the Black Cat deli on the thirteenth floor of a building on Friday the 13th, it would not disturb me. I might take note of it, but it wouldn't bother me.

my Mother's family (meaning my grandparents, great grandparents, siblings etc) always had a thing about the number 3..my great grandparents lost 3 children to the "consumption"- all died on a day with the number 3,on of the boys was 3 years old. My greatgrandfather lived in a house in Naples with his two brothers, that only had 3 rooms, it burned down twice, each time on the 13th of march. My uncle was 23,hit by a car and thrown 333 three feet and killed, the car had 3 passengers-twice previous he almost died, once while swimming, and another time in another pedestrian accident...he had walked to the store to get three packs of cigs..one for him and one for two of his friends..my grandfather(maternal) had a massive heart attack while doing masonry work on the front sidewalk of their house in Scranton..on October 13th..he died on the 23rd.My grandmother(maternal) died on March third,An aunt on September 23,which was also her birthday and 33rd wedding anniversary..and on November 23rd,the same grandfather who would later succumb to heart failure, lost his business's when they fell victim to the great depression after struggling to keep them open, he lost 3 bluestone quarry's, a construction company, and a bakery...he fed his family (13 children)by selling tinscraps, and frying up dough(pizza fritte) and selling it to the neighbors. At one time or another-all of us grandchildren have lived in a home with the number 3...and no one has moved into those homes until my Uncle the Monsignor has come to bless the house...Ok maybe we are just wierd.

That is true of some other (mostly older buildings) too. And I *think* in Japan, many hotels do not have a third floor.
