The world's most loved and recognized Italian plumber Mario, is cooking up something for the world to enjoy. Marking the release of his upcoming adventure, Super Mario Sunshine(tm) for Nintendo GameCube(tm) in true al dente style - Mario and Nintendo plan to break the world record for the largest bowl of edible pasta.
To date, the largest bowl of spaghetti topped the scales at 2,564 pounds. The new record will weigh in at 2,700 pounds of pasta and sauce, provided by Bucca di Beppo.
This is a call for Mario fans to come to San Francisco and show the world how devoted you are.

Winning Mario look-a-likes will be chosen by audience votes to plunge into the giant record-breaking bowl of spaghetti in hopes to win a sun-drenched trip to Hawaii and other Nintendo prizes.

If anyone hasn't heard of Bucca di Beppo before - basically, it's an Italian restaurant that is wildly decorated (a Pope room even!). On the way to get seated at your table, the host/hostess will take you through the kitchen so you actually get to see what's going on in the back. There's even a special booth right there in the kitchen that you can reserve! The portions are super big - think family style. With 6 people, we ordered salad, a loaf of bread, and 3 entrees and had plenty to eat. :thumb:

Here's an article (http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/ptech/08/26/nintendo.mario.reut/index.html) about the new Mario game, including stuff about that spaghetti thing.

PlanetGameCube has a collection of pictures (http://www.planetgamecube.com/media.cfm?action=evshot&id=35&seq=1) from this event. The guy in the Luigi costume looks like he was having way too much fun playing with the spaghetti. Show off much?

That would have been cool. That would be cool to dive in it. That is on my top 10 things to do before I die list.
Well, no it's not.
