Why are there interstate highways in Hawaii?because the funding for highways is actually federal money. in order to qualify for those funds, the roads have to be considered interstates. because every other state (save for alaska) can claim to have interstates and therefore qualify for this money, hawaii was allowed to call their regular highways "interstates" to become eligible for these moneys.
edit:
Why is there only ONE Monopolies Commission?

Is it still federal? I thought they changed it to state but i guess i'm wrong. I remember when they wanted to change the speed limit from 55mph there was some talk about how if a state wanted it changed they would have to pay for their own highways or something. I dunno, i really wasn't paying attention.

the biggest trick they had to pull was to turn the whole joint into a huge resort to bring in tourist money. kinda sad, but i can't exactly talk since i was there as a tourist :hmm:
