UDP doesnt ensure that the packets arrive at their destination, which in turn makes it faster, but less reliable than TCP.

in a nutshell, if you want the packet to arrive at its dest., use tcp. tcp is useful for anything that you want to be sure arrives (e.g. email). ifyou have something that doesnt necessarily all need to arrive (eg streaming video), then use udp. btw, the reason you dont need all packets to arrive for streaming video is cuz video goes so fast that you wont miss a few frames here and there

omg. i read the RFC a few times ... that was so long and boring. if u tell him to read it, then u r essentially turning him off of udp and tcp altogehter ;)

Did you want them for running over netBIOS (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1001.html) or IPX? (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1791.html)

We need a big nerd smiley...
